Description
The Pavement Markings Striping Technician will primarily be responsible for laboratory support, on-road application/striping of pavement markings, and maintenance of striping equipment. This includes operating the striping equipment, evaluating application performance, and characterizing physical properties. Secondary responsibilities may involve preparing, formulating, and testing road markings under the direction of a project leader. This role requires driving and travel during road trials, adherence to road safety practices, safe laboratory handling of chemicals, formulation/application of waterborne coatings, and use of coatings application equipment. The Technician will also conduct routine coatings tests and maintain a lab notebook. Further details are provided below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- With training and oversight, perform all duties related to the pavement marking process, including driving and operating road marking line striping equipment (and other pavement marking equipment), and paint mixing.
- Work across the country, not just in Collegeville and surrounding areas.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of line striping equipment (or more general machine or spray equipment).
- Prepare for road striping with the team, including formulating small- and large-scale waterborne coating systems for road marking applications.
- Ensure quality and reliability of products by conducting performance and application tests on road markings and coatings, focusing on dry time, durability, and appearance.
- Support and follow all safety policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintain a safety mindset and willingness to learn.
- Maintain labs, equipment, chemicals, and supplies.
- Strong mechanical and engineering aptitude with proven experience working with machinery.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including diagnosing and fixing mechanical issues, and attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes quickly.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with regularly shifting priorities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and ability to organize and summarize experimental data.
- Ability to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Frequent/occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling material weighing approximately 50 lbs.
- Driving (up to 10 hours with breaks).
- Ability to work outside for up to 25% of the week.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Standing 50% of the time.
- Wearing all required personal protective equipment.
- Safe handling of chemicals, application equipment, and coating and testing methods, including proper handling and disposal of waste chemicals and used laboratory supplies.
- Experience with line striping equipment or pavement markings.
- Experience in line striping (long line, short line, or parking lot).
- Experience with spraying coatings (preferably waterborne coatings).
- Familiarity with laboratory and analytical equipment, methodologies, and capabilities.
- Understanding of road safety procedures.
