Metal Cutting Associate – Position Overview
Pay: $17 / hour
Shift: Monday-Friday 6 AM - 3:30 PM
First Day of Training starts at 8 AM
The Metal Cutting Associate is responsible for accurately cutting and preparing metal components that support glass fabrication processes. This hands-on production role requires attention to detail, adherence to specifications, and a commitment to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpretation & Planning
- Read and analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications to determine cutting requirements and tolerances.
- Review daily work orders to establish materials needed, dimensions, and prioritize cutting schedules.
- Machine Operation & Material Handling
- Set up, adjust, and safely operate manual and automated metal cutting equipment (e.g., CNC automatic cutter, shears).
- Measure, mark, and cut metal to precise dimensions using measuring instruments, such as tape measures, calipers, and squares.
- Handle, position, and secure raw materials for efficient workflow and to minimize waste.
- Quality Control & Inspection
- Inspect raw materials for defects prior to processing and assess finished components to ensure they meet specification and quality standards.
- Maintain consistent checks for dimensional accuracy and surface finish as outlined in project requirements.
- Equipment Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Perform basic troubleshooting on cutting equipment.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or process concerns.
- Keep work environment clean, organized, and free of safety hazards; maintain inventory of materials, tools, and supplies.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with other production team members to ensure efficient completion of projects.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding production status, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
- Adhere to internal quality control guidelines and industry standards to ensure output meets all safety and performance expectations.
- Follow all established safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment and participation in ongoing safety improvement initiatives.
- Actively contribute feedback on safety practices and equipment operation.
- Experience in metal cutting, fabrication, or manufacturing preferred.
- Proficient in reading technical drawings and using measurement tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and perform repetitive tasks.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Commitment to teamwork, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training is an asset.
