Robot Programmer/Robot Engineer
Detroit, MI
Full Benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401K, PTO, paid holidays) PLUS paid overtime!

Rates will vary depending on experience:
Robot programmer/troubleshoot/debug: $40-$50/hr
Robot Engineer with full development experience: $50+

In this position you will be responsible for robot simulations, reach studies, implementations, programming, debug, technical support, training, and start-up. Many projects will be designed from the ground up while others may be based upon previous projects. Being at ease interacting with the customer and clearly communicating technical details is vital.

                                                                     

Major Duties:

  • Report to the Electrical Engineering Manager for project assignments and reports on daily activity, progress, and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for robot simulations, reach studies, offline programming, debugging, and commissioning for automated systems.
  • Aid the sales and applications departments in evaluating future projects and customer request(s) for quotes. Typically providing controls architecture, cost, and labor estimates.
  • Work with various teams including controls and mechanical engineering, build team, etc. to test, commission, and debug equipment.
  • Coordinate and perform the installation, startup, validation, and commissioning of systems at customer facilities.
  • Coordinate with the Mechanical Engineering Department on a timely basis to ensure that all reach and simulation studies are kept current and correct.
  • Provide product improvement suggestions and customer feedback to project management.
  • Attend project kick off meetings including internal and external kick offs, lessons learned meetings, project status meetings, etc.
  • Aid in the development of standard practices for robot simulations and programming.
  • Conduct the peripheral device setup (hardware configurations) for any robot options or process specific applications for various robot systems.
  • Prepare service/warranty and other reports for customers and internal distribution in a timely manner.
  • May be requested to perform onsite or in-house training for customers or new employees.  Training onsite may be formal training in a classroom setting.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience with Fanuc, Yaskawa/Motoman, Kuka, and ABB will be given preference.  Consideration will be given to those with Nachi, Kawasaki, Universal, Omron, or other not listed.
  • Experienced with RoboDK, MotoSIM, RoboGuide, or other simulation software preferred.
  • Experienced with various robot applications including but not limited to dispense, vision both 2D and 3D, welding such as spot weld and MIG welding, material handling, etc.
  • Any experience with Industry 4.0, SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) or IIoT (Industrial internet of things).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent customer focus and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be self-directed and exhibit the ability to work independently.  Must also be able to take direction and be able to work as part of a team.
