Tooling Design Engineer

Are you a skilled Tool Designer passionate about crafting precision tooling solutions for high-performance manufacturing environments? Creative Liquid Coatings is seeking a dynamic Tool Designer to join our growing team. With over 30 years of excellence, we've evolved into a leader in plastic injection molding and automated paint finishing, operating 40 state-of-the-art machines and handling an extensive range of materials. As part of our team, you'll play a critical role in designing and optimizing tooling solutions that drive quality, efficiency, and innovation in our production processes.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, develop, and implement effective injection molds and tooling solutions tailored to our diverse production needs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to analyze requirements, troubleshoot tooling challenges, and ensure top-tier quality.
  • Lead efforts to improve tooling standards, recommend design changes, and participate in sourcing and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Review vendor proposals and perform Moldflow analyses to validate mold performance.
  • Track and aim for 100% First Pass Yield (FPY) on all tooling—new, repaired, or modified—ensuring compliance with our rigorous standards.
  • Oversee tooling build and launch processes, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality parameters.
  • Conduct equipment effectiveness studies and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.
Required Skills:
  • Proven experience in injection mold tooling design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of Moldflow analysis and part design validation.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting tooling and mechanical issues within a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to analyze manufacturing data, including FPY, downtime, and equipment utilization.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with vendors, engineers, and technicians.
Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with automation or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Knowledge of cost reduction strategies related to tooling and molding processes.
  • Certification in tooling design or related engineering disciplines.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in injection molding or tooling design, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to work on-site in Kendallville, IN.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
