Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking an experienced Senior System Safety Engineer.  This position is based out of our Bridgeton, MO facility but has the option to be a hybrid schedule or a remote worker.  The ideal caniddate will have expertise in developing a MIL STD 882-based system safety program and associated processes.  This expertise includes developing and executing a risk management strategy based on the identification and analysis of hazards and application of remedial controls using a systems-based approach. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop division-level MIL STD 882E system safety program in conjunction with integrating OSHA facility compliance program
  • Develop and implement system safety programs on complex system development contracts.  Tasks include preparation and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System, System Safety Management Plan, and System Safety Program Plan, and support of the System Safety Working Group charter
  • Participate as needed in engineering meetings and program reviews, including Integrated Product Teams, Working Groups, Configuration Control Boards, and/or Milestone Reviews.  Tasks can include safety approval or endorsement of Engineering Change Proposals, Change Notices, Mishap Reports, and/or Requests for Deviation/Waiver
  • Assess system risks to personnel, equipment, and/or environment.  Tasks include Preliminary Hazard List, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, System Requirements Hazard Analysis, Subsystem Hazard Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Health Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Be able to work independently, regularly reporting progress and status
  • Responsible for completion of activities on time and budget
  • Responsible for working effectively and professionally with a team of diverse engineers and program management
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization
  • Travel up to 25%
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of system safety engineering experience
  • Understand and have a working familiarization with MIL STD 1472G
  • System-specific knowledge in one or more of these areas: defense systems, explosives safety, electromagnetic radiation, laser safety, and/or software safety 
  • Strong analytical and organizational traits to develop system safety skillset and effectively support the customer
  • Proficient in technical writing to assist with the preparation of reports of complex systems
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarization with US Department of Defense development and lifecycle support programs
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

 

The expected pay scale for this position is $85,600.00/year - $122,408.00/year for the states of Illinois and Minnesota, $94,160.00/year - $134,648.00/year for the state of Washington, and $98,440.00/year - $140,769.00/year for the state of California. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate's relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
