Title and Summary
Director, Government Affairs & Policy Overview:The Director of Government Affairs and Policy for the Government and Policy (GAP) team will play a critical role in driving strategic advocacy campaigns, working in collaboration with cross-functional teams, to shape and implement global policy initiatives and the views of global stakeholders. This role will sit on the expanded Office of Government Engagement team in Washington, DC and report directly to the Government Engagement Head and Chief of Staff of the Chief Government Affairs and Policy Officer.
Role:
Draft briefers, talking points, geopolitical risk updates, and background materials prior to various internal leadership meetings and external advocacy engagements.
Develop strategies and insights to advance global government affairs and policy advocacy efforts in support of our business priorities.
Anticipate geopolitical trends and develop research and messaging to communicate our point-of-view in a complex environment.
Advocate and advance Mastercard's core GAP initiatives, including managing our involvement with external consultants, trade associations and other companies.
Work with internal stakeholders, policymakers, and industry experts to determine opportunities and risks to the Company from specific political, legislative, and regulatory developments.
Maintain and enhance relationships with key policymakers, influencers, and global leaders to advance the company's priorities, while representing the company at industry forums, trade associations, and other key external engagements.
Work closely with the U.S. Government Affairs and regional government affairs teams to ensure we are addressing global research needs and assembling the necessary expertise to share the future policy environment.
Support the efforts to expand a corporate diplomacy program with U.S. and foreign embassies.
Support relationships with key globally oriented trade associations, coalitions, and industry organizations to drive alignment with our GAP strategy and advocacy efforts.
Represent the company in globally oriented trade associations, coalitions, and industry organizations, identifying opportunities for increased engagement that will promote business objectives and public policy priorities.
Support engagements with U.S. and global policymakers globally to advance Mastercard's policy interests at all levels of government.
Work cross-collaboratively with GAP leadership and other senior Mastercard executives, demonstrating subject matter expertise, and advising on potential implications of current geopolitical risks and trends for Mastercard's business and purpose.

Excellent written and spoken communication skills coupled with the ability to communicate at a high level, including explaining complex policy matters to senior executives across business units and to external stakeholders.
Innovative policy thinker who can formulate and implement policy solutions that will benefit Mastercard's business interests and purpose.
Ability to craft and build public affairs, policy, and messaging strategies that target important audiences both internally and externally to support business growth.
Strong analytical approach to problem solving, ability to develop creative and practical solutions to complex problems, able to deal with short deadlines, and work productively in high pressure situations.
High geopolitical acumen with a thorough understanding of the decision-making processes of executive and legislative branches of government, including national and economic security decision-making.
Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at the global, regional, or local level.
An ability to work with a wide range of personalities and interests, including industry colleagues, policymakers, staffers, academics, community leaders, and internal executives.
Entrepreneurial spirit with proven ability to operate in a corporate environment and experience operating in a matrix organizational structure.
Knowledge and experience of the payments, financial services, and technology sectors are a plus. Pay Ranges
Washington, District of Columbia: $187,000 - $300,000 USDApply on company website
