Title and Summary

Lead, Platform Engineering Overview
• Platform Services manage our systems, networks, and data centers, aiming to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure and software deployment capabilities for our global solutions.
• Provide administration of production, pre-production, UAT, and development database systems, assisting in designing the database tier for our global payments solution.
• Maintain a robust, scalable, and high-performance production database environment, collaborating with system engineers, database developers, and senior database administrators.
Role

• Responsible for installing, configuring, creating, patching, and administering PostgreSQL and Oracle databases.
• Implement proactive monitoring of all databases to predict and diagnose most problems before they impact application performance or user experience.
• Configure and manage Oracle installations, including RAC, upgrades, patches, and GoldenGate replication.
• Configure and manage PostgreSQL installations, replication, upgrades, minor patching activities, and both physical and logical PostgreSQL replication.
• Undertake periodic upgrades of database schemas, performing testing and verification of released database schema upgrades.
• Create and maintain documentation, procedures, and best practice guides for database deployment and maintenance.
• Collaborate with development and other support teams to participate in release and change management processes, implementing new features/functions and applying mandatory patches or upgrades.
• Due to the nature of the organization and environment at MPGS, the role may require non-standard work hours to minimize downtime. On-call support is a part of job responsibilities.

All About You
• Solid experience in troubleshooting and tuning Oracle and postgres databases with extensive experience as a Database Administrator in large organisations.
• Thorough understanding and significant experience of database backup and recovery, performance monitoring and tuning, data manipulation and migration.
• Strong technical knowledge of database architecture, data storage and management principles, with experience using related technologies
• Experience with highly availabile database architectures.
• Significant experience in Oracle and postgres database including replication technologies.
• Experience Unix shell scripting and Knowledge of automation technologies like Chef or Ansible.
• Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent qualification/industry experience within IT/eCommerce
• Any Enterprise Database certification in Oracle or posrgres techonologies is a desirable qualification.
• Hands on approach to Crisi management, problem resolution and root cause analysis.
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal coupled with strong problem solving skills.
• Positive attitude with the ability to adapt and be flexible within a fast paced environment.
