Title and Summary

Manager Software Engineering Overview:
Mastercard's Business & Market Insights group is seeking a Manager Software Engineering with a strong .NET foundation to design and implement robust, secure, and scalable shared services that enhance the developer experience across our global engineering organization.
From building libraries and APIs to optimizing developer tooling, you will enable teams to deliver high-quality software faster and more efficiently. Your work will span critical domains such as authentication, caching, logging, error handling, and testing frameworks—ensuring Mastercard's applications are built on a rock-solid, high-performing foundation.
Mastercard's Business & Market Insights group is a key differentiator that delivers data-driven technologies and software services, including business experimentation, loyalty and marketing automation, and advanced data analytics to help our customers innovate and grow.
This is a hybrid position based in Arlington, VA requiring three days per week onsite.

Role:
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented software engineers through coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical guidance.
• Drive technical excellence by contributing to system design, architecture discussions, and code reviews while remaining actively involved in development using C#, ASP.NET Core, and related frameworks.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional partners to define, design, and deliver high-quality, end-to-end software solutions.
• Champion best practices for code quality, performance, scalability, and security across the development lifecycle.
• Oversee the full SDLC, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with Mastercard's engineering standards.
• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration that encourages experimentation and shared ownership.
• Drive team growth by participating in recruiting, onboarding, and developing top engineering talent to strengthen the team's long-term capabilities.

All About You:
• Proven experience as a Software Engineer, Developer, or Architect, with demonstrated success as a Manager mentoring and leading engineering teams.
• Strong coding proficiency in .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework), with hands-on experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
• Exposure to or working knowledge of Java and related frameworks is a strong plus.
• Practical experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and DevOps practices.
• Skilled in designing solutions with a focus on performance, security, scalability, and resiliency.
• Experienced in managing projects, people, and priorities across multiple geographies and business units.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Pay Ranges

Arlington, Virginia: $159,000 - $254,000 USD
