About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Mastercard's global credit card authorization team. We facilitate billions of transactions among issuers, acquirers, and service providers worldwide. We are looking for a strong software engineering people leader to build advanced technologies and applications that revolutionize payments.


Role

As a Software Engineering People Manager, you will:

- Serve as a servant leader for a cross functional engineering team including Software Engineers, Technical Program Managers, and Product Manager–Technical roles.
- Recruit and hire top talent, ensuring each new hire raises the bar relative to the current team.
- Collaborate closely with product, vendor, and architecture stakeholders on product definition, technical design, and overall delivery strategy.
- Act as a technical resource and mentor, helping team members grow their skills and make sound engineering decisions.
- Review designs, code, and implementations with an emphasis on quality, resiliency, and maintainability.
- Communicate clearly and confidently in department wide forums, helping convey application-level direction, progress, and priorities.
- Coach, guide, and develop your team, ensuring goal setting, check ins, and performance management are done thoughtfully and on time.
- Own the health of your team's software, including runtime characteristics, maintenance behaviors, dependencies, and environmental considerations.
- Make rapid, confident decisions in a fast-paced environment, providing clarity amid ambiguity.
- Drive senior management communication, including delivery updates, support considerations, and escalations as needed.


All About You

- A degree in Computer Science or a related field, preferred
- Proven experience leading high-performing software development teams is required. Managing, coaching, and developing high-performing Agile engineering teams is preferred.
- Relevant hands-on experience with software development is required (C/C++ or Java preferred).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and driving engineering efficiency.
- Motivated, creative, and self-directed with a strong desire to thrive on small, agile teams.
- Demonstrated ability to design scalable, reliable solutions for complex problem spaces.
- Familiarity with modular architectures, single responsibility services, and API design.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with high volume, low latency systems (e.g., payment switching, high-frequency trading, real time event streaming).

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Pay Ranges

O'Fallon, Missouri: $140,000 - $231,000 USD
