Title and Summary

Vice President, Product Portfolio Strategy Overview
Mastercard powers economies and empowers people in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Together with our customers, we're helping build a sustainable economy where everyone can prosper.

Within Mastercard, the Business & Market Insights (B&MI) organization provides data-driven insights, analytics, and platforms that enable better decision-making for businesses and governments globally. While B&MI has experienced strong momentum, the company's 2030 growth ambitions require capabilities and revenue streams that do not yet exist today. BET is responsible for finding, shaping, and launching those opportunities.

The Business Expansion & Transformation (BET) team was created to accelerate B&MI's long-term growth ambitions by identifying and developing new businesses, products, and capabilities beyond our current portfolio. BET works across internal product lines and external ecosystems to identify transformative opportunities that can drive the next generation of growth.

BET operates as Mastercard's business-creation engine. The team scans across and beyond existing P&L silos to identify transformative opportunities, new products, platforms, and capabilities that unlock value across the Mastercard ecosystem.

The Vice President, Product Portfolio Strategy is a leader within BET, responsible for identifying, shaping, and advancing new product and business opportunities from concept through early product definition.

This role sits at the intersection of product management, strategy, and venture building, translating emerging market signals into validated product concepts and scalable business opportunities.

You will not only define where to play, but also help define what to build, ensuring opportunities are grounded in real customer problems, strong product thinking, and clear paths to commercialization.

What You'll Do
•Design and lead Mastercard's opportunity discovery engine across markets, technologies, and ecosystems
•Translate emerging signals into clear product opportunities, including target users, value propositions, and problem statements
•Identify whitespace opportunities that can evolve into new products, platforms, or businesses
•Shape early-stage ideas into validated product concepts, including MVP definitions and initial product strategies
•Conduct customer, market, and competitive analysis to validate demand and product-market fit
•Define initial product vision, use cases, and success metrics for new opportunities
•Develop investment theses supported by commercial, strategic, and product insights
•Evaluate opportunities across desirability (customer), feasibility (technology), and viability (business)
•Manage a portfolio of opportunities across different stages, time horizons, and risk profiles
•Partner with Product, Engineering, and Foundry teams to transition validated concepts into build-ready initiatives
•Define MVP scope, early roadmaps, and handoff criteria for product development teams
•Stay engaged through early build phases to ensure product intent and customer value are preserved
•Build and leverage a network across startups, venture capital, academia, and industry
•Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies (including AI) and evolving business models
•Use data and AI-driven tools to enhance signal detection, pattern recognition, and insight generation
•Establish repeatable frameworks, tools, and governance for opportunity discovery and product incubation
•Help scale BET into a durable enterprise capability

All About You
You bring a rare combination of product intuition, strategic thinking, and venture mindset, with the ability to operate effectively in a large, complex organization.

•Significant experience in product strategy, product management, corporate strategy, or venture / incubation environments
•Track record of shaping and launching 0→1 products, platforms, or new business initiatives
•Experience translating ambiguous opportunities into clear product concepts and business cases
•Background in consulting, venture capital, or corporate strategy is valued—but paired with strong product exposure
•Strong product instincts: ability to define customer problems, value propositions, and MVPs
