General Summary of Position
Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interaction and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance company and handles DUR rejects pre-authorizations etc.; performs final check on all prescriptions ensuring accurate input labeling and dispensing; and provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager: directing workflow patterns ensuring daily responsibilities are carried out by assigned staff resolving issues requiring management intervention and performing routine oversight of pharmacy operations.
- Performs final check on all completed prescriptions verifying the accuracy of input labeling and dispensing; makes corrections as necessary; maintains refill and narcotic logs and prescription files.
- Processes prescriptions in the dispensing system; evaluates prescriptions for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interactions and contraindications; handles DURs rejects preauthorizations etc.; communicates with third party payors to troubleshoot issues relating to coverage reimbursement etc.
- Provides clinical information and guidance to physicians and allied health professionals as appropriate to provide safe prompt and accurate dispensing of all prescriptions; calls physicians and follows up on refill requests; notifies physicians of Rx's requiring pre-authorizations and discusses alternatives as appropriate.
- Provides patient counseling as appropriate on a patient-by-patient basis.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- Licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland or District of Columbia (DC) required
Experience
- 1-2 years Pharmacy experience preferably in retail required
Licenses and Certifications
- PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist Current Maryland or DC Pharmacist license including Immunization/Vaccination Certification and registration with the board of pharmacy in that state or district. required and
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $49.33 - USD $86.10 /Hr.
