Position Summary

The Senior Director of Nursing – Perioperative Services is a key member of the hospital's entity-based Division of Nursing (DON) leadership team. This role provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership across a broad scope of perioperative services, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care, anesthesiology partnerships, endoscopy and procedural rooms, and central sterile processing services.

 

The Senior Director is responsible for advancing professional nursing practice, ensuring high-quality patient care delivery, and driving operational excellence in alignment with MedStar Health's mission, SPIRIT Values, and Patient First philosophy.

 

Provide executive leadership for perioperative nursing and procedural services, overseeing clinical, administrative, operational, personnel, and financial functions on a 24/7 basis. Serve as an active member of the Division of Nursing leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, organizational decision-making, and the development, implementation, and achievement of strategic initiatives and annual goals.

Foster a culture of collaborative governance, shared decision-making, professional development, and continuous learning while promoting a Patient First environment that drives quality outcomes, staff engagement, productivity, and job satisfaction. Maintain current knowledge of healthcare organizations, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based clinical practice to advance nursing excellence.

Collaborate closely with Executive Staff, Hospital Leadership, Medical Staff, system perioperative service line leaders and peers across the system, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and MedStar Health policies.

 

Required Education – Bachelor's in Nursing required.  Master's in nursing or health related field required.  Doctorate in Nursing preferred.

 

Required Experience – Minimum of five year of progressively responsible leadership roles in nursing, including director of nursing (or equivalent) or above.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications – Current Maryland RN license or compact state. Certification in Nursing Administration from a nationally recognized nursing organization such as NEA-BC or CENP required within one year.


This position has a hiring range of

USD $142,064.00 - USD $287,996.00 /Yr.
