General Summary of Position
Performs in a senior role that helps processes nonexempt and exempt payroll transactions on a biweekly/basis. Work performed must be in compliance with MedStar policies and procedures as well as regulatory rules and regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Complies with regulatory rules and MedStar policies governing the processing of payroll information.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with regulatory rules and company policies governing the processing of payroll information.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the Payroll department.
  • Participates in team building activities including: Assists with the training of new payroll staff. Serves as backup to the Payroll Specialist and serves as backup for banking duties which includes but is not limited to monitoring ACH returns, daily positive pay and monitor banking mailbox.
  • Performs controls and balancing activities during payroll processing including: Balances Short Term Disability; use compare reports to balance the Short Term Disability Spreadsheet maintained by company. Analyzes all payroll error reports for the bi-weekly payroll run. Reviews and balances payroll compare reports. Runs and processes retro reports and payments.
  • Performs Post Payroll Activities including: Assists the payroll staff to analyze and resolve processing issues. Reviews and confirms all off cycle payments. Travels to office to assist with the printing, sealing and distribution of all on cycle payments for all active associates and direct deposit vouchers for all terminated associates. Processes stop payments via banking software and PeopleSoft.
  • Performs Senior role during the payroll processing activities including: Loads all PSHUPs (PeopleSoft adjustment/payout spreadsheets) to the repository. Runs PSHUP not loaded query after all PSHUPS have been loaded to pay sheets & research any issues. Enters and maintains all severance payments. Sets up and maintains all payroll allocations. Reviews and processes Short Term Disability payments in accordance with MedStar Policy as submitted by the Office of Leave Management Department.
  • Responds to associate questions received via email and payroll customer service line. Provides front line support to the payroll customer service line.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required and college courses preferred

Experience

  • 5-7 years Payroll experience utilizing an automated payroll system. Fundamentals of payroll knowledge required 
  • Peoplesoft experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • FPC or CPP designation preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of IRS regulations as related to payroll processing.
  • Proficient use of 10 key calculator.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software applications.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and external agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $23.65 - USD $42.03 /Hr.
