General Summary of Position
Under general supervision performs routine and specialized sonographic procedures in relevant registrations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Executes basic clinical competence in Ultrasound in all locations across all patient types. Selects accurate equipment and technical factors on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
  • Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows patient experience quality and safety to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Actively participates in student and employee training and educational activities.
  • Maintains supplies and inventory in area. Informs appropriate colleague when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors. Documents and reports related equipment/environmental problems in accordance with policy.
  • Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment including cleaning and preparing exam room. Prepares probes with appropriate disinfection techniques including high level disinfection when required. Prepares exam room with supplies and needed equipment. Assists with invasive procedure areas with aseptic techniques and sterile processes to meet organizational infection prevention standards.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of equipment performing quality control and reporting on any equipment and environmental issues promptly.
  • Verifies order reason for exam scanning protocols and patient identity. Initiates appropriate scanning protocols.
  • Provides patient education and support by preparing patients for procedures and addressing their physical and psychological needs through effective communication with patient. Obtains patient history and accurately completes the ultrasound worksheet with detailed information to assist the radiologist in interpreting the results. Escalates concerns through appropriate channels.
  • Prioritizes patient flow and coordinates care with consistent and frequent communication with patients care team and families. Documents patient care activity in various electronic health record systems. Distributes final images timely to the PACS system for interpretation.
  • Always acts and communicates professionally embodying the organization's SPIRIT values and fostering a respectful and supportive environment for patients families and colleagues. Adheres to the ARRT Standards of Ethics.
  • Applies knowledge of Ultrasound principles and practices including anatomy and physiology physics positioning and patient care skills. Adheres to Joint Commission State Federal and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • Vocational/Technical Diploma Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program with certification in Diagnostic Sonography by ARDMS or AART. required and
    • Associate's degree Associate's degree in health sciences or related field preferred
    Experience
    • 1-2 years required
    Licenses and Certifications
    • RDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer RDMS or RVT certification Upon Hire required and
    • BLS - Basic Life Support Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification Upon Hire required and
    • RDMS-V - Registered Diagnostic Med Sonographer-Vascular RDMS certification with additional RVT certification within a year as required per site clinical need. Upon Hire preferred

    USD $35.68 - USD $64.71 /Hr.
