General Summary of Position
Performs a variety of technical duties to assist with obstetric surgery and patient care in the Labor & Delivery areas. Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities in the obstetrical services/maternal and newborn areas under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a medical provider. Assists nursing and medical staff with performance of procedures and tests. Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and performs care activities such as specimen collection phlebotomy intravenous (IV) insertion Foley Catheter care and documentation of observations in the health record.Incumbents in this position may perform all or a combination of the duties described depending upon the assigned work area and the specific needs of the patients and the department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology training program required and
• Certified Nursing Assistant - completion of a certified nursing assistant training program required or
• Patient Care Technician - completion of a patient care technician training program required

• Less than 1 year 0-6 months experience as a surgical technologist preferred
• Less than 1 year 0- months experience as a certified nursing assistant or patient care technician preferred

• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Upon Hire required or
• Certified Patient Care Technician Upon Hire required
• SURG-TECH - Surgical Tech - Certified Upon Hire preferred
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

• Competency in case procedure preparation and completion.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills preferred.
