MedStar Health is looking for a Manager Perioperative Supply Chain Operations to join our team at Medstar Washington Hospital Center!

 

As a Manager Perioperative Supply Chain Operations, you will be responsible for all Supply Chain Management and logistics activity in Procedural Departments, (ex. OR, Cath Lab, IR, etc.) leading to a performance and resource effective supply chain system. Ensures the highest possible supply service levels while maintaining strong expense control to include managing the supply inventory, physician product preferences, and revenue generation (patient charge). Responsible for monitoring analytical tools required to support the operation.

Primary Duties

 

  • Strong customer service focus and team player with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities. Accurately tracks supply data such as back orders, manufacturer numbers, expiration dates, product recalls, lot numbers, etc. as needed & communicates critical issues with Perioperative Leadership. Analyzes inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, or optimize customer service and facilitates annual physical inventory and reports.
  • Appropriately utilizes PeopleSoft to perform routine daily activities, maintaining organization within supply storage areas, and communicating with Data Management team for item master maintenance activities. Communicates appropriately throughout the facility with procedure department leadership, physicians, and specialty team leaders to establish supply chain strategies to optimize workflow, discuss product availability, cost controls, and implement strategic plans for standardization and savings opportunities. Conducts performance evaluations of all direct reports and ensures appropriate level of supply chain resource support to meet the daily operational requirements of the procedural departments.
  • Coordinates and oversees activities of procedural area staff responsible for inventory management which includes ordering, receiving, managing back orders, stock outs, and order discrepancies, distributing purchased items, strategic or tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory control, and warehousing. Monitors the status of the case pick process and issues a daily update to Perioperative Leadership. Defines performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, such PAR optimization, procedure-specific cost analysis and case pick accuracy.
  • Engages in hiring, orientation/training, staff development, team building, and mentoring of perioperative supply chain department personnel with a strong focus on customer service excellence. Implements performance improvement initiatives that support business strategies adapted to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies. Manages vendor relationships by scheduling and managing site visits, oversees consignment management, monitors consignment item expirations, and facilitates returns to vendor in accordance with contract guidelines.
  • Responsible for the overall performance and service level provided by the Supply Chain team for assigned departments Reviews and validates supply and equipment requests for special ordered items for procedures are contractually compliant. Routinely reviews invoices, receiving reports, department reports, and other documents to assist in resolution of discrepancies for SCM and other facility departments. Works collaboratively with management, staff, physicians and the Value Analysis Team in the evaluation, trials, and conversion of supplies and equipment

 


Qualifications:

 

  • 5 years progressive experience in a surgical setting: associate leadership, office management, inventory management, and variance reporting experience.
  • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or healthcare management preferred.
