General Summary of Position
The IV Room Supervisor is responsible for the administration, coordination and supervision of the IV room services at GUH. They will identify, resolve, prevent drug-related problems, and conducts clinical activities. The IV Room Supervisor will assist the Manager of Pharmacy Services in setting departmental goals, delivering and advancing the IV therapy and distributive pharmacy services by interacting with health care providers, patients, and family, as appropriate to ensure continuity of services and to achieve desired positive patient outcomes through safe, efficient, cost-effective IV drug therapy. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • IV ROOM SUPERVISORY PRACTICE ACTIVITIES.
  • Coordinates delivery of IV related pharmaceutical care with staff in the centralized and all satellite pharmacy areas. Coordinates training of new employees, residents and students. Prepares and assists with administration of IV staff performance evaluations. Counsels on IV related issues on performance and provides documentation of exemplary and unsatisfactory work performance at time of occurrence Participates in the selection, development, and training of IV related functions for technicians and pharmacists.. Ensures that the all IV related functions are in compliance with JCAHO, regulatory and licensing agencies and departmental requirements. Proactively seeks solutions to patient problems encountered both inside and outside of the department. Serves as the department's liaison and maintains strict confidentiality of patients or employee information. Maintain good inventory rotation, documentation of wastage and minimize the overall waste.
  • IV ROOM SUPERSIOR ACTIVITIES
  • Oversee all daily regulatory compliance functions inclusive of regulation USP 797. Participates in the education of the medical team as required. Oversee the TPN program, evaluate and maintain quality assurance for the TPN service. Participates in the Quality Improvement meeting for the Neonatal and Pediatric units in relation to TPN/QI to convey information to the and from the Pharmacy. Will oversee the day to functions of the IV room Pharmacist and Technicians. Will supervise and ensure the proper recycling of reusable IV medications and also the proper storage of reusable IV medications.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree BS in Pharmacy required
    • Pharm.D preferred or

    Experience

    • Two years as an IV room pharmacist required
    • Some managerial experience preferred
    • Supervisory experience preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist DC license required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Extensive knowledge of the theory and practice of IV pharmacy service, good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care for the adult, adolescent, pediatric and neonatal patients that involve the use of drugs.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge in understanding of changes in physiology in various age groups, understanding of drug pharmacokinetics and toxicities in the various age, and understanding of proper selection of drugs.


    This position has a hiring range of $118,331 - $230,172
