General Summary of Position
Plans and controls comprehensive, accurate and timely financial management systems to enable nurse executives and clinical staff to successfully achieve budgetary goals, institution cost reduction and cost effective strategies, programs, methods and systems; Administers centralized scheduling and staffing system that ensures a balanced allocation and deployment of resources across the inpatient and related patient care centers. Manages all expense verification and acts as a liaison between vendors to ensure invoices are paid appropriately. Delegates and supervises work appropriately. Reports to the Senior Nursing Director , Capacity and Resource Management.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provides assessment, development, training, and consultation to improve nursing leadership effectiveness and efficiencies in setting and achieving financial targets.
  • Maintains flexible financial tracking and monitoring programs of key indicators to provide data for trend analysis and improvement of financial outcomes.
  • Approves the movement of nursing personnel to other departments.
  • Meets regularly with nursing management to assess current and future staffing needs.
  • Maintains Staffing and Scheduling System up to date.
  • Evaluates Position Control by meeting with each Senior and/or unit leader to ensure accuracy. Meets with recruitment monthly to reconcile requisitions.
  • Responsible for the daily operations and commitment needs of the Float Pool. .
  • Collaborates with nurse executives in the financial planning process to ensure fiscal soundness of all new services and programs.
  • Promotes Pathway to Excellence standards through daily practice.
  • Analyzes financial reports for accuracy, reasonableness and applicability to sound business principles and practices and interprets results to nursing leadership.
  • Performs personnel analyses to guide the Division of Nursing to achieve and maintain established targets.
  • Develops and implements appropriate workload performance standards, evaluates performance standards, and recommends appropriate productivity improvements and cost reductions.
  • Utilizes benchmarking and decision-support tools to improve productivity and profitability.
  • Partners with nurse executives to ensure the delivery of integrated patient care by providing a sufficient number and mix of competent and qualified staff.
  • Ensures that staffing associates are trained in scheduling and staffing functions and in the use and comprehension of key indicators to monitor productivity and applicable human resource and nursing policies and procedures to effectively and efficiently carry out their responsibilities.
  • Collects statistical data and prepares reports reflecting staffing levels and scheduling patterns.
  • Manages Staffing Matrices for efficient utilization for staffing nursing units.
  • Directs and supervises the staffing associates in scheduling and staffing functions to ensure exemplary interpersonal relations and performance standards are met; staff reallocation decisions are within limits of safe care and budgetary parameters and deviations from the standard result in prompt, timely notification to the appropriate nurse executive.
  • Interviews, hires, and evaluates staffing associates, coordinators, and supervisors to ensure standards of performance and staffing practice performance standards are fully met and performance improvement opportunities are identified, initiated, and evaluated.
  • Collaborates with nurse executives, human resources, payroll and finance in the planning, implementation and evaluation of changes that impact nursing's ability to meet staffing and scheduling requirements and effectively utilize human resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Responsible for assisting with coordinating the preparation of annual departmental budget, monitors and takes appropriate action to ensure adherence to the budget to meet fiscal goals.
  • Responsible for validating payment of all traveler invoices and producing reports that detail hours and dollars by department.
  • Develops staffing plans, reports, etc. for special projects overseen by Chief Nurse Officer.
  • Collaborates with Staffing Manager/Nurse Director to assist with the coordination and the preparation of annual departmental budget, monitors and takes appropriate action to ensure adherence to the budget to meet fiscal goals

    Minimal Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Master's degree in Nursing, Business, Finance, or Health Care Administration. preferred

    Experience

    • 3-4 years in a hospital or healthcare setting required
    • experience and knowledge of scheduling and staffing processes and theory required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and phone etiquette


    This position has a hiring range of $102,606 - $196,996
