Responsible for the direction of the timely and accurate preparation of the financial statements and other financial information/analysis including internal and external financial reports. Seeks the support of all departments and services in maintaining strong fiscal controls and is responsible for overall fiduciary oversight and financial input into decisions made in these business/ministry units. Directs identification & analysis of opportunity to improve financial performance of various business units and ministries. Supports Health System and Hospital leadership with various financial information requests, reports and analysis on a timely/accurate basis. The Director of Finance will provide daily supervision and staff development plans for direct reports and will perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Job Responsibility:
- Ensures that financial statements for (entity/segment) are prepared timely and in accordance with GAAP.
- Responsible for preparation, presentation and analysis of monthly financial closings/financial statements and ensures appropriate leaders are informed as to financial performance of applicable business units.
- Develops materials (e.g., schedules, graphs and narrative) for presentations to Ministry Office, Stewardship Committee and Board of Directors meetings.
- Continuously reviews processes and deliverables relating to internal and external reporting to enhance efficiency and content.
- Assists Budget Team in preparation of the annual operating and capital budget process, including preparation for budget meetings and instructing department managers on the budget software.
- Responsible for coordination of annual financial audit and completion of the audit request list (Prepared by Client list of audit schedules).
- Completes special projects as directed by CFO, West Communities.
- Managerial responsibilities - makes appropriate decisions regarding the hiring of new coworkers, maintains day-to-day direct supervision of staff, completes evaluations thoroughly and timely, and handles all staff disciplinary issues, etc. Additional responsibilities include all training of staff and assistance in maintaining departmental coworker satisfaction. Keeps coworkers informed of changing policies, procedures, and major decisions affecting them by holding routine staff meetings.
- Monitors employee progress on delegated tasks.
- Supports Health System and Hospital leadership with various financial information requests, reports and analysis on a timely/accurate basis. Maintains the Mercy-wide Units of Service and Financial Statistics initiative.
- Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate. Observes universal precautions consistently. Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance. Meets Health System standards. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting , Finance or related field from an accredited college or university.
Licensure: None.
Experience: Requires a minimum of five years experience or a level of practical experience necessary to enable efficient achievement of job requirements with a minimum level of day-to-day supervision. Medical or hospital experience required.

- Strong communication skills, ability to interact with board level individuals and senior executives.
- Computer literacy with intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Knowledge of proper financial statement formats and disclosures required under GAAP.
- Ability to work with and preserve confidential information.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Preferred Licensure: CPA preferred.
Preferred Experience: Healthcare financial reporting experience.
