Location: Remote (Must live in Missouri, Oklahoma, or Arkansas)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 Hours Weekly

Position Overview

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a compassionate, customer-focused, and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative (PSR) to join our team. As the first point of contact for patients and visitors, the Patient Service Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive and seamless patient experience.

This position supports patients and care teams across Arkansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, and Kansas while working remotely. Candidates must reside within Missouri and be available to attend occasional onsite meetings or training as required.

The PSR is responsible for managing front-end patient access functions, scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate patient records, and providing exceptional customer service while ensuring compliance with Mercy policies and confidentiality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and verify patient identity in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Manage incoming phone calls and respond to patient inquiries effectively.
  • Perform patient check-in, check-out, and appointment scheduling activities.
  • Create and maintain patient records within Epic and other electronic health record systems.
  • Process mail, scanning, RightFax documentation, copying, and other administrative tasks.
  • Maintain accurate electronic health records and ensure chart accuracy.
  • Balance and reconcile cash drawers daily according to established procedures.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of office and clinic equipment, including computers, scanners, fax machines, copiers, calculators, and credit card processing equipment.
  • Review department communications promptly and actively participate in team meetings and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of new Epic enhancements and workflow changes.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment while following Infection Control Guidelines.
  • Adhere to Mercy safety policies and report incidents according to established procedures.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with all privacy and security requirements.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, providers, and colleagues.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a patient-centered approach.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, data entry, and word processing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling patient information and documentation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy policies and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations professionally and with composure.
  • Must successfully attend and complete Clinic Core Front Desk Training following hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of medical office, healthcare, patient access, or related administrative experience.
  • Experience working with Epic or other electronic health record systems.
  • Previous experience in scheduling, registration, or patient-facing healthcare roles.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday as needed.
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat while performing job duties.
