As a Senior Infection Prevention Specialist, you'll play a key leadership role in advancing the safety and quality of care across our facility. Working under the direction of the Director of Quality, you'll help guide the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of our infection prevention plan. You'll also mentor and support Infection Preventionists as they partner with patient care teams to achieve the highest standards of clinical outcomes.
In this role, you'll serve as a trusted subject matter expert, collaborating closely with nursing, medical staff, and organizational leaders. Together, you'll design, implement, and champion evidence‑based practices that reduce infection risks and enhance patient safety. Your work will support continuous improvement efforts and ensure Mercy remains a leader in delivering high‑quality, mission‑driven care.

Onsite position location at Mercy Hospital South Position Details:
Education: Bachelor's of Science in clinical healthcare or a health science related field (e.g., nursing, lab sciences, public health or related field). An associate's degree or Nursing diploma and commensurate experience in lieu of the bachelor's degree, in addition to the required experience, may be considered.
Experience: 5+ years clinical healthcare related experience
Certification/Registration: Certification in Infection Prevention (e.g., CIC) or equivalent required within 3 years of hire.
Other Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proven leadership ability
- Knowledge of complex hospital and healthcare systems, processes and quality/performance improvement
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Effective change agent.
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of the internet, evidence-based medicine, analytical skills and good clinical inquiry and investigational aptitude
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Strong public speaking skills and demonstrated ability in presenting to a variety of co-workers, including physicians, clinicians, administration, and support staff
- Self-directed and able to perform independently with minimal oversight
- Ability to travel throughout the hospital on a high frequency basis
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master's of Science degree (healthcare or public health related)
Experience: 7+ years clinical healthcare related experience. 3+ years infection prevention experience
Certification/Registration: Certification in Infection Prevention (CIC) or equivalent
