Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Administrative Director and Assistant Director, the Clinical Nurse Supervisor assists with planning, supervising, assessing, and providing supervisory oversight in accordance with the hospital and department policies and procedures. This role includes staying informed and actively participating in productivity, quality outcome measures, patient experience, and employee performance. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor ensures that department staff work within the scope of practice as defined by the applicable licensing bodies.

The Clinical Nurse Supervisor under the leadership of the Assistant Director is responsible and accountable for supervising the daily operations related to Acute Psychiatric Services which includes supporting the care of psychiatric patients of all ages including children, adolescents, and adults through the care continuum of psychiatric clinical programs including but not limited to inpatient psychiatry, psychiatric consultation, and psychiatric observation.

This role balances the responsibilities of overseeing patient care with collaborative oversight of the unit's overall operations. Responsibilities include overseeing staffing, patient clinical quality of care, psychiatric patient flow, patient experience and as needed supporting psychiatric patient care. This role includes providing staff coaching, training, policy/procedure oversight, staff mentorship, and financial stewardship related to staffing and timecard accuracy. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor embodies the department and organization's mission to deliver safe, high-quality patient care and to act as a good steward of resources. Supervision of staff includes nurses, social workers, therapists, behavioral specialists, ancillary and support staff.

Experience

  • Minimum two years nursing experience working with people experiencing behavioral health disorders. Minimum two years nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Must have charge nurse or equivalent leadership/supervisor experience.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field required.

  • Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients and must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Licensure/Certifications

  • State of California RN license required.

  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.

  • De-escalation training must be completed within the first 6 months of hire.

  • American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric- Mental Health Nursing Board Certification preferred

  • Live Scan fingerprint clearance required by the Department of Healthcare Services is a job requirement

The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.

Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $5.50 Hourly Night Shift Differential: $8.00
