POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Engineering & Quality Manager, the Engineering Technician provides support to the engineering team in the design, development, and improvement of manufacturing processes, systems, tooling, and equipment. The role involves hands-on work, troubleshooting, and assisting with the implementation of engineering solutions to ensure optimal production efficiency, product quality, and safety in a remanufacturing environment. Utilizes Lean Manufacturing Principles to develop process layouts, material plans, and component presentation to promote efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the creation of Work instructions, BOMs, Control Plans, PFMEA, Job Safety Analysis, and processes for new product introduction
- Analyze core boom lifts to understand failure modes, item fall out, and replacement percentages
- Support and service current products through customer and shop floor interaction
- Support PPAP requirements by working with all appropriate departments, including the OEM
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Analyze current processes; develop and execute improvements to safety, quality, cost, and delivery
- Design and source tooling and fixtures
- Utilize knowledge of product design, materials and components, machining and fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, quality control, and safety standards
- Collect data to support process capability studies, gauge studies, and equipment utilization studies as required
- Participate in corrective action projects
- Operate boom lifts, primarily during testing and process development
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- High school diploma or equivalent, or combination of education and experience
- Five years of experience in a production facility, preferably in a manufacturing or remanufacturing environment
- Familiarity with product testing methods, quality control, and LEAN manufacturing practices
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to explain technical concepts.
- Good oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Good computer skills, especially in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
PREFERRED SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE/ ABILITY/ EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
- Degree, or continuing education pursuing degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering or a related field
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment layout, and material presentation
- Knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for tooling design and production layout modeling
- Experience with ERP systems (specifically Infor CSI) and project management software
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), ISO standards, and environmental regulations
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure all QMS (Quality Management System) guidelines and regulations are followed
- All employees are required to follow and promote all company and regulatory safety and environmental standards and exhibit safe work practices at all times
- Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Safety Toe Shoes, Safety Glasses, etc. required in production and warehouse environments
- Follow established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and continuous improvement objectives
- Actively participate in and support the principles of Open-Book Management
- Exhibit a positive attitude and promote a positive work environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed mostly in a controlled atmosphere. Some exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. This employee will be required to demonstrate continued knowledge of Haz/Com regulations and requirements. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing 20%, sitting, 30%, walking 50%. This position requires occasional physical effort including lifting, pushing and pulling material weighing up to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch.
