At NorthBay Health, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting and maintaining an MBSAQIP-accredited Center of Excellence through continuous compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice. Working directly with the MBS Director, the coordinator plays a critical role in program operations, quality improvement, data oversight, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Coordinator serves as a key liaison across NorthBay Health departments and collaborates with the metabolic and weight loss program to support seamless patient navigation throughout the continuum of care (pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative). The coordinator also collaborates with others as appropriate to support program initiatives, education, and quality improvement activities.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Accreditation, Regulatory Compliance, and Program Oversight
Assists the MBS Director in managing and maintaining continuous compliance with MBSAQIP standards, Joint Commission (or equivalent), and applicable federal and state regulations.
Serves as the designated liaison between the center and MBSAQIP, ensuring timely communication, documentation, and readiness for site visits.
Actively participates in all MBSAQIP site visits and accreditation reviews for the center.
Maintains knowledge of accreditation criteria, regulatory standards, and organizational policies and serves as a resource to staff and leadership.
Supports development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of policies, pathways, and protocols aligned with evidence-based practice.
Serves as a liaison between the facility and all metabolic and bariatric proceduralists, including surgeons providing call coverage.
Assists in maintaining documentation of surgeon call schedules and ensures accessibility to departments involved in bariatric patient care
Collaborates as required to support operational planning and workflow optimization.
Fosters collegial, collaborative relationships across departments and disciplines.
Maintains confidentiality of all related program information.
Demonstrates accountability for professional practice.
Participates in committees, task forces, and work groups as assigned.
Facilitates the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Committee, including preparation of agendas, documentation of meeting minutes, and follow-up on action items.
Attends at least two of the three required MBS Committee meetings annually, including the annual comprehensive review meeting, and the majority of other meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Quality Improvement and Data Management
Oversees bariatric program data collection processes and verifies that data are accurate and consistent with patients' medical records.
Monitors outcomes data, quality indicators, and performance metrics to support patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Collaborates with manager and program leadership to support planning, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement projects.
Works closely with the MBS Clinical Reviewer to ensure timely and accurate submission of data to the MBSAQIP Registry.
Identifies trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement and supports corrective actions.
Patient Navigation and Coordination of Care
Supports patient navigation across NorthBay Health services and coordinates care with the metabolic and weight loss program and other relevant departments.
Maintains knowledge of pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative processes, pathways, and protocols to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
Provides education and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers related to bariatric surgery, treatment plans, and available resources.
Partners with patients, families, interdisciplinary teams, and community resources to deliver coordinated, timely, and patient-centered care.
Communicates patient needs, concerns, and care coordination issues to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
Identifies patient safety risks and supports implementation of practices to reduce harm.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing.
Licensure/ Certification: Current RN license. Certification in case management and/or nursing practice preferred.
Experience: Three years of experience in a bariatric program and/or MBSAQIP-accredited Center of Excellence highly preferred. Previous experience serving as a Bariatric Surgery (BS) Coordinator or Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Coordinator preferred. Experience supporting accreditation, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, outcomes data collection, or clinical program coordination (required). Experience in bariatric case management preferred. Experience working collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams in a bariatric or surgical specialty setting preferred.

Hours: M-F 8-5 based on business need.
Compensation: $73.92 to $ based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
