At NorthBay Health, the Endocrinology the Clinical Dietitian is responsible for and has the authority to deliver nutrition care according to the philosophy, policies, and goals/objectives of the Endocrinology Program. The Clinical Dietitian assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nutritional processes for individual patient care. The Clinical Dietitian makes determinations regarding the progress of the patient toward nutrition goals and utilizes a professional relationship with the patient and family to facilitate those goals. The Clinical Dietitian modifies and delivers care specific to the behaviors/needs of the patients with in the scope of service of the Endocrinology Program.

With appropriate certification as a Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE) this position would be qualified to support the Endocrinology Program, which would include being responsible for providing direct diabetic education, insulin teaching and management as well as insulin initiation and adjustment based on department protocols and California Diabetes guidelines for care. The CDE would be responsible for monitoring and adjusting the insulin pump and continuous blood glucose monitor per the direction of the Endocrinology Medical Director. 

 PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  1.     Performs nutrition assessments, develops care plans and delivers nutrition and chronic disease management education according to established guidelines.

  2.     Documents nutritional information in medical records.

  3.     Participates in planning health education intervention where nutrition is an issue.

  4.     Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills.

  5.     Completes projects as assigned by the department Manager and/or the Medical Director by deadlines.

  6.     Participates in Community activities as needed.

  7.     Confers with team, when appropriate, to patient nutrition status.

  8.     Participates in setting program goals for programs with dietary components.

  9.     Develops and participates in nutrition in-services to staff, if needed.

 10.    Participates in quality improvement activities.

 11.    Develops written nutrition and other materials as needed.

 12.   Prepares for class and other activities in a timely manner.

 13.  Communicates with other department members effectively.

 14.  Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

  1. 1. Education:  B.S. degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics with completion of one year internship or equivalent accreditation program.

  2. 2.  Licensure:  Currently Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Certification as a Diabetes Educator required.

  3. 3.    Experience:  At least two years of experience in outpatient nutrition specifically with insulin pump management and continuous blood glucose monitors.  

4.    4. Skills:  Charting and assessment skills. Organization, time management skills, and ability to analyze data; presentation and teaching skills. Ability to remain flexible and positive within a rapidly changing patient care environment.

6.  Hours of Work:  Variable prescheduled according to business need.

7.  Compensation $51 to $62 based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
