This position will be work out of the Denison Job Center at 10 Opportunity Dr, Denison, IA 51442
We are currently seeking a (1099) Physician and Nurse Practitioner in Denison, IA for 8 hours a week each.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) agrees to provide routine medical services within the licensee's scope of practice within the state of Iowa. The APRN Subcontractor will adhere to the policies, procedures, and guidelines for the center Health and Wellness Medical Program, as established by the Federal Job Corps Program, as defined in the Policy Requirement Handbook (PRH). Medical Services to be provided as authorized with the oversight of the Health and Wellness Manager, with the counsel of the Center Director. The APRN will share with the center physician the responsibility of quality of care rendered, development, implementation, and monitoring of the medical program on the Denison Job Corps Center, as outlined in the PRH. This position reports to the Health and Wellness Manager.
Essential Job Duties:
1. A cursory medical inspection for each student within the first 48 hours after arrival on center, and a definitive medical examination and health history of each student, within 14 days of arrival on center. The medical examination will include the interpretation of all routine laboratory tests.
2. Diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury, including the availability of being on center for acute illness and injury visits.
3. Arrangements for preventive immunizations and detection and control of communicable diseases as specified in PRH-6.
4. Medication oversite and provision for students as necessary to gain/maintain optimal health. Monthly medication review/management for all students receiving routine medications.
5. For the Family Planning program, the APRN, in cooperation with an appropriate specialty consultant, would be responsible for developing and supervising ongoing education for health services personnel, and personally rendering direct patient counseling in this area to the students. State and private contracting agencies may be utilized in this area as needed.
6. On center management of uncomplicated chronic diseases with consultation of off-center specialist as needed.
7. Daily walk-in clinic and appointment system for above and for episodic illness or injury assessment by APRN and/or nurse.
8. Provision of all necessary referrals for specialist and institutional care and assisting in reviewing follow up information from such off-center referrals.
9. Practitioner to collaborate with the Health and Wellness Manager and Wellness Team any concerns related to students and discuss all medical and health related matters.
10. Practitioner to be fully supported by the Center's in-house medical staff and resources.
11. Providing a system of 24-hour emergency back-up coverage/referral protocol and procedures.
12. Treatment, as listed below, to be provided when necessary.
- Third party payer information will be given to providers when off center care is required
Qualifications Include:
- Licensed Physician or Nurse Practitioner
- Active, unrestricted license to practice in state where center is located
- Certificate/license as an APRN, to meet individual state practice act
- Current DEA registration (PRH Chapter 5, Exhibit 5-3)
- Resume evidencing experience treating young adults and adolescents
- Must be licensed to practice in Iowa
- Job Corps experience preferred
- Knowledge of mental health issues of disadvantaged youth
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulation
- Strong assessment skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and listening
- Must have a valid Iowa driver's license with acceptable driving record
