Description
A Purchaser at Gibson Engineering is responsible for executing the day-to-day procurement activities that fulfill orders processed from Gibson's growing customer base. This role creates and maintains purchase info records, processes purchase requisitions, and makes informed purchasing and vendor selection decisions to minimize costs, meet deadlines, and ensure our customers' expectations are exceeded. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced customer-centric environment and is able to efficiently, accurately, and professionally execute the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
Create, maintain, and update purchase info records to ensure accurate and reliable procurement data.
Process purchase requisitions accurately and in a timely manner to support internal and external customer needs.
Continuously evaluate vendors and make drive purchasing decisions that balance cost, quality, lead time, and reliability.
Execute sourcing activities that reduce operational costs and optimize freight expenses without compromising product quality or deadlines.
Maintain strong communication and collaboration with internal teams—including sales, operations, production, and warehouse staff—to ensure alignment on demand, timelines, and inventory needs.
Identify and resolve procurement-related issues, including delays, discrepancies, and supply constraints.
Support continuous improvement efforts within a lean environment by identifying opportunities to streamline purchasing processes.
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships and escalate concerns when needed.
Contribute to team goals by sharing information, supporting cross-training, and participating in decision-making discussions.
Qualifications
Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain operations (industrial automation or distribution experience preferred).
Familiarity with procurement systems or ERPs (Primarily SAP S4 Hana)
Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely, informed decisions.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities; comfortable working collaboratively across the organization both virtually and in-person.
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, evolving, and lean environment.
High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
Ability to quickly learn new systems, products, and processes.
Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
