The Security Supervisor is the senior leader for contracted security at Bow Valley College, responsible for overseeing daily security operations and ensuring all activities follow the College's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Acting as the voice of the security team, the supervisor supports Team Leads in training their staff, ensures assigned tasks are completed efficiently, and serves as the link between frontline security operations and the Manager of Security and Emergency Services. The role directs the workflow of Security Team Leads and Security Services personnel while supporting the Manager in maintaining a professional workforce through effective hiring, training, mentorship, ethical treatment, recognition, and leading by example. The Security Site Supervisor also assists in administering the Security Services Contract, ensures Team Leads carry out contract responsibilities effectively, and helps set and achieve individual and team objectives while maintaining team morale and a positive work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and coordinate operation security, including allocation of required resources and the implementation and monitoring of work schedules/duties in accordance with legislative, College and operation requirements/standards.
- Manage a Security Command/Dispatch Centre, electronic security systems and technology, and maintain operational procedures, practices and standards.
- Ensure personnel scheduling is conducted effectively to optimize security visibility and administer the Work Authorization process.
- Maintain positive oversight of the Access Control of Bow Valley College.
- Day-to-day supervision to ensure all aspects of the security program are assessed and updated regularly.
- Manage a security incident reporting process and review and approve security incident reports to identify adverse incident trends.
- Ensure all incident and daily reports are generated in a clear, concise and professional manner and proof read for correct and accurate information and spelling/grammar.
- Manage a quality assurance program focused on maintaining high levels of service and performance quality.
- Respond to calls for service and security-related incidents as required and take command of emergencies as they pertain to the site's SOP until relieved by the Manager, Security and Emergency Services.
- Team Supervision, Training & Safety
- Direct responsibility for supervising the overall Security Services team at the College and manage security staff performance.
- Ensure that all aspects of the conduct of security personnel at Bow Valley College are of the highest standard and address staff administration in a timely manner, including scheduling requests, vacation requests, disciplinary/accolade citations, probationary and annual evaluations, and Core Staff requests.
- Schedule, implement and track all Security Department training and education, oversee site orientations, and ensure personnel are trained in relevant emergency-related protocols (SOP's).
- Co-develop and supervise monthly emergency drills and support the Joint Worksite Health & Safety Committee (JWHSC), OH&S program, accident investigations, and required training.
- Support in administering and ensuring conformance with the security services contract and provide input to College Action Plans and Security Assessments.
- Report and confer regularly with the Manager, Security and Emergency Services regarding daily or upcoming matters and immediately report deficiencies or site issues.
- Act as the conduit through which Security Team Leads communicate with each other and provide leadership through exemplary personal conduct.
- Develop and manage an effective team through recruitment, mentoring, training programs, performance management, collaboration with colleagues, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years working in a security services environment.
- A minimum of 2 years of security supervisory experience, ideally at a College or University of complex.
- Secondary Education in Security/Life Safety, Risk Management or Criminology-related discipline is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment
- Tact and diplomacy when working with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Flexible and adaptable when dealing with diverse situations and people
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills in group settings
- Ability to delegate and empower team members effectively
- Team-oriented with a collaborative approach
- Legally Authorized to work in Canada
