JOB PURPOSE
The HVAC Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of building automation and HVAC control systems. This role focuses on ensuring HVAC systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with design intent. The technician works independently and in coordination with HVAC service teams, controls vendors, and facility stakeholders to maintain system performance, resolve control-related issues, and support long-term operational stability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Controls System Service and Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service on HVAC control systems and building automation systems
- Inspect controllers, sensors, actuators, network wiring, and control panels for proper operation
- Verify system performance, sequences of operation, and communication integrity
- Identify control-related deficiencies and document findings clearly
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
- Diagnose control system faults including communication issues, sensor failures, actuator malfunctions, and programming-related problems
- Support troubleshooting of HVAC equipment by verifying control logic and system commands
- Isolate controls issues from mechanical or electrical faults and communicate findings effectively
- Coordinate with controls manufacturers or vendors when proprietary systems require escalation
Installation and Configuration
- Assist with installation of control devices, sensors, actuators, and field wiring
- Verify proper termination, addressing, and labeling of control components
- Support controller replacement and point-to-point verification
- Load or assist with approved control programs under supervision or direction when applicable
Coordination and Support
- Work closely with HVAC service technicians to resolve system-level issues
- Support Senior Controls Technicians or Controls Engineers as assigned
- Coordinate with electricians and other trades to ensure proper execution of controls-related work
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, dispatch, and project management teams
Documentation and Reporting
- Accurately document service activities, findings, and corrective actions
- Record control points, deficiencies, and operational notes using company systems
- Capture photos, screenshots, and trend data when required
- Maintain clear and organized documentation for future reference and follow-up
Safety and Professional Standards
- Follow all company safety policies and site-specific requirements
- Adhere to electrical safety standards and lockout tagout procedures
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct when representing the company
- Ensure work areas and control panels are left clean, secure, and properly labeled

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems and basic control theory
- Understanding of sensors, actuators, relays, control wiring, and network communication basics
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, control schematics, and sequences of operation
- Strong troubleshooting mindset with attention to detail
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Experience with building automation systems such as Distech, Tridium Niagara, Honeywell,
- Johnson Controls, Siemens, or similar platforms
- Experience with BACnet and MS TP networks
- EPA Section 608 certification (or willingness to obtain) MUST HAVE WITH 6 MONTHS OF HIRE.
- Familiarity with field controllers and graphical interfaces
- Controls or HVAC technical training, certification, or equivalent field experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work on ladders, rooftops, and mechanical rooms
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments typical of HVAC and controls service
- Travel within or outside of Florida.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with ABC salary and benefit policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by ABC Mechanical.
FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY
Job is non-exempt subject to the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with ABC Mechanical's policy. Growth and Development. This role offers advancement opportunities into Senior Controls Technician, Controls Specialist, or Controls Engineering support roles based on experience, training, and demonstrated performance.
