The position of Manufacturing Operations Engineer will be based out of Indianapolis, IN location!

Summary

The Manufacturing Operations Engineer will specialize in assembly operations and play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing light manufacturing/assembly processes to ensure efficient and high-quality assembly production. Work closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure that our assembly operations meet quality standards and production goals. The Manufacturing Operations Engineer should have a passion for optimizing assembly operations, developing testing procedures, and managing work schedules to help drive innovation and success in our assembly operations.

 

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement assembly processes to optimize efficiency and reduce costs
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance productivity in the assembly center
  • Collaborate with Program Manager, Operations, Sourcing, Technical Specialists, and Quality to ensure successful product implementation
  • Act as the project manager for new product implementation in the assembly center, overseeing the entire process from planning to execution
  • Scrub, vet, validate and update Bill of Materials (BOM) to verify accuracy and completeness for assembly operations
  • Assist in managing the scheduling of work at the assembly center to ensure efficient use of resources and timely completion of production targets
  • Work in partnership with key stakeholders to create and implement operational procedures that improve assembly center processes. Work with Program Managers and Technical Specialists to develop and maintain test and work instruction procedures for assembled products
  • Create quality strategies that drive process stability, provide quality assurance and process standardization to reduce error rate. Ensure associated ISO process, controls and feedback is utilized to reduce risk and quality defect rate
  • Responsible for equipment to ensure it's maintained, identify equipment needs, provide proper training and resource tools for its use
  • Implement and manage assembly schedule efficiently minimizing operator down time or non-productive time frame balance vs lead time
  • Collaborate with the Sourcing team and Program manager to reduce inventory holding costs and identify opportunities to improve inventory availability to meet lead-time goals
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Need

  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Technology 
  • 3+ years of experience in light manufacturing preferred
  • Operation/Production Manager experience in a made-to-order/assembly/manufacturing environment preferred
  • Proven experience in light manufacturing/mechanical assembly or a related role, with a focus on assembly operations

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement techniques in an assembly environment
  • Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) management and updates
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced assembly environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Organization and time management skills, detail oriented, able to prioritize in a multi-tasking environment and ability to work under and adhere to specific deadlines
