Title: Laboratory Animal Veterinary Assistant

FTE:

1 Shift: First Shift (United States of America) Summary: Provides routine veterinary care to non USDA-regulated species (i.e. mice and rats bred for research). Performs rodent health surveillance, irradiation of laboratory animals, genotyping services, quarantines imported mice, performs animal husbandry and technical procedures, and inventories and maintains sterile supplies, under the direct supervision of the Clinical Veterinarian.

Salary range is $41,061 - $52,411 which includes a comprehensive benefits package. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

Certification RequirementCertification through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Technician Certification Program at the at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level.

Education and ExperienceAssociate's degree in science or related field and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in an animal laboratory environment or a related field that includes direct experience with animal-handling procedures.

NOTES:1. Incumbents must obtain certification through the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Technician Certification Program at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment.

Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate should have AALAS certification at the ALAT level or higher, previous experience working in a laboratory setting, and working with laboratory animals.
