Title: Network Systems Specialist I - Wireless Engineer

Regular Company: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Department: Information Technology Time Type: Full time Weekly Hours: 40 FTE: 1 Shift: First Shift (United States of America) Summary: Wireless Engineer with expertise in Juniper Mist and Konnectio RTLS technologies to join our dynamic IT team. In this role, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and optimizing wireless network solutions, with a primary focus on Juniper Mist and Konnectio RTLS systems. Additionally, you will be responsible for campus network administration, utilizing Cisco and Juniper switches to ensure seamless connectivity and performance across our organization. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in configuring and managing wireless networks, as well as a solid understanding of network infrastructure using Cisco and Juniper switches. Responsibilities:
• Utilize heat map tools to analyze wireless coverage and signal strength across the network.
• Identify coverage gaps and areas of interference for optimization.
• Monitor and optimize SNR levels to ensure reliable wireless connectivity.
• Adjust configurations to minimize interference and improve signal quality.
• Manage 5GHz and 2.4GHz frequency channels to optimize network performance.
• Understanding of DFS Channels
• Select appropriate channels to mitigate interference and congestion.
• Monitor Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) levels to assess signal strength and coverage.
• Adjust AP placement and configurations to maintain optimal RSSI levels.
• Configure and manage various authentication methods such as EAP, PEAP, TTLS, and certificate-based authentication.
• Using Radius Servers to authorize and account wireless client connectivity
• Ensure secure access to the wireless network while meeting organizational requirements.
• Implement Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) technologies, such as Konnect.io, for asset or personnel tracking.
• Deploy and manage RTLS infrastructure to enhance location-based services.
• Understand and adhere to Layer 1 cabling standards for deploying wireless APs.
• Ensure proper cable management practices to maintain network reliability and performance.
• Configure and manage switch ports for connecting wireless APs and network devices.
• Handle port configuration, adds, moves, and changes to support network expansion and reconfiguration.
• Mentor junior network/security administrators and provide training on security best practices
• Proficient in IT Service Management (ITSM concepts and operations, particularly with ServiceNow
Requirements:
• Extensive understanding of Mist Systems technology, including configuration, deployment, and maintenance of Mist Edge appliances and access points.
• Ability to design and optimize wireless networks using Mist Systems solutions.
• Hands-on experience in configuring and managing Juniper Mist echo system and mist edge appliance
• Hands-on experience in configuring and managing Cisco and Juniper switches, including port configurations, VLANs, and trunking.
• Knowledge of switch administration tasks such as port security and link aggregation.
• Proficiency in configuring and managing Radius servers for authentication and authorization in wireless networks.
• Experience with configuring Radius attributes and policies for user authentication, including EAP methods and access control.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and Radius.
• Strong understanding of Network Access Control
• Knowledge of security best practices for wireless networks, including encryption standards (WPA2, WPA3), authentication methods, and access control policies.
• Experience in deploying, configuring, and managing Mist Edge appliances
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex wireless network issues, including connectivity problems, interference, and performance degradation.
• Proficiency in using Mist Portal network monitoring and diagnostic tools for problem identification and resolution.

Salary range for this position is $88,639 - $111,897 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

1. Master's degree and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or
2. Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a Network Technician at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center; or
3. Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of four (4) of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or
4. Associates degree and the equivalent of six (6) years of full‐time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or
5. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of eight (8) years of full‐time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization.

NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Extensive understanding of Mist Systems technology, including configuration, deployment, and maintenance of Mist Edge appliances and access points.
  • Ability to design and optimize wireless networks using Mist Systems solutions.
  • Hands-on experience in configuring and managing Juniper Mist echo system and mist edge appliance
