Roush's Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) department is seeking a CFD Technical Specialist.  CFD Technical Specialist will support engineering program teams with proven technical expertise in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The role will perform fluid dynamic analysis to solve flow and thermal engineering problems to aid engineering in the upfront design of vehicle, powertrain, aerospace, and amusement park rides. This individual will build CFD models and conduct Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis supported by sound engineering explanation and hand calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Build CFD models for various applications in the automotive, aerospace, and industrial segments using commercial software (ANSYS Fluent, Star CCM+, EnSIGHT).
  • Conduct CFD analysis independently using CAE tools.
  • Support analysis with sound engineering explanation and hand calculations.
  • Review results with Manager and share with the customer.
  • Recommend alternative analysis approaches and design solutions to meet the functional targets.
  • Interface with customer to complete tasks with a high level of quality while meeting timelines.
  • Enhance existing and develop new analyses capability as a part of continuous improvement,
  • Participate in proposal writing and technical sales along with fresh graduate hiring process.
  • Maintain pertinent information in assigned location and perform data cleanup.
  • Interact confidently and professionally with stakeholders at all levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related.
  • Minimum of 6 years of CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) experience.
  • Experience in fluid and thermal analysis, conjugate heat transfer analysis, external aerodynamic analysis, and optimization analysis using optimization tools. 
  • Experience performing multi-phase flow analysis. 
  • Experience in performing correlation of complex assembly models. 
  • Experienced in problem solving. 
  • Strong fundamental knowledge in Fluid Mechanics and Thermal / Heat Transfer for solid / liquid and gas phases. 
  • Strong aptitude in modeling and simulation with ability to solve brand new engineering problems. 
  • Good understanding of Numerical methods including optimization.
  • Advanced software skills in CAE pre-processors, solvers, and post-processors (Altair Hyperworks, ANSA & META, ANSYS Fluent, Star CCM+, EnSIGHT).
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and problem solving skills with ability to train and mentor junior analysts.

Preferred Skills

  • Master of Science or PhD in Mechanical Engineering specializing in fluid and thermal engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and 6 years of CAE experience.
  • Experience in method development in CFD domain.
  • Experience in performing challenging simulations like Soiling & Water fording analysis.
  • Experience with ‘CAE to Test' correlation.
  • Experience with performance optimization and trade-off evaluations.
  • Experience with Electric vehicles related analyses.
  • Experience developing and present technical reports and procedures.  
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident allowing for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance.
  • Ability to independently handle technical discussions with specialists from customer engineering teams.
