SAIC is seeking a Data Scientist to be part of a creative internal team to provide data science expertise supporting a growing and diverse Sponsor mission set. The candidate will bring knowledge of data analytics along with development skills to create methodologies, tools, scripts, and analytics to automate and enhance analytical processes to bring additional insights to Targeters from large complex datasets. The position requires a creative thinker who is able to rapidly learn the principles of scientific and technical fields in order to apply them in novel ways to the Sponsor's problem sets. The team receives diverse tasking which could include leveraging existing APIs to data sources, building locally run Python applications, applying and training machine learning models, performing optical character recognition or object detection from images/video, and/or providing ETL support for local applications and solutions.

Bachelor's degree in mathematics, science, data science, engineering or related field or 6 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.

Experience with modern techniques in artificial intelligence (AI), data science, machine learning (ML), or statistics.

Experience leveraging and managing cloud infrastructure and writing code for applications in AWS cloud environments.

Demonstrate high level of initiative, creative problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Experience working with subject matter experts to frame analytic questions and determine scope.

Ability to develop functional code from documented technical concepts.

Demonstrated experience with images, text, structured, and unstructured data.

Demonstrated experience working in an environment that responds flexibly to evolving customer requirements.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Experience in six (6) or more of the following areas:

Adapting and implementing supervised and unsupervised machine learning models for a variety of problem sets.

Four (4) years' experience writing structured code, and a minimum of one year experience writing original Python code.

Four (4) years' experience developing code in Windows and Linux environments.
-
Four (4) years' experience working with relational and non-relational data structures.
-
Four (4) years' experience programmatically accessing web services via APIs.

Writing SQL queries, including extracting data across multiple data sets.
-
Two (2) years' experience writing original code in web development languages and frameworks such as JavaScript, AJAX, Jinja, Flask, and CSS.

Writing code in a distributed processing ecosystem, such as utilizing Spark and/or PySpark.

Experience creating data visualizations.

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD in mathematics, science, engineering or a related field.

Four years' experience in the intelligence community (IC).

Experience creating robust prototype applications using well-structured, maintainable code that can be deployed to multiple users.

Demonstrated ability to synthesize highly mathematical academic papers from a variety of scientific fields into functional code.

Four years' experience writing object-oriented code.

Experience with graph theory, information theory, computational geometry, or other fields of mathematics with demonstrated applications to intelligence work.

Experience designing and implementing lightweight graphical user interfaces (GUI's) for analytic applications.
