We are currently seeking a motivated Drafter/CAD Operator III to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating detailed and accurate technical drawings using advanced CAD software, collaborating closely with design teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and often mentoring junior drafters, requiring strong technical drawing skills, proficiency in CAD software, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of engineering principles.
Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.
This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Use computer-aided software to develop drawings and schematics based on layouts, sketches, or redlines.
- Develop intricate 2D and 3D CAD models based on complex assemblies and project specifications.
- Draft detailed multi-view drawings of machine and products.
- Oversee the drafting process on assigned projects, assign tasks to junior drafters and review their work for accuracy.
- Work closely with engineers and other design professionals to incorporate feedback and ensure design integrity.
- Apply knowledge of industry standards and materials to design elements.
- Thoroughly review drawings for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive drawing sets with proper annotations, labeling, and specifications.
- Maintain expertise in advanced CAD software features and functionalities, including 3D modeling tools.
- Perform calculations and analysis to ensure design feasibility and functionality.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Drafting or related scientific discipline; OR completion of formal resident trade school or apprentice program in drafting.
- Six (6) to nine (9) years of professional experience as a drafter preparing Level 3 engineering drawings, circuit schematics, and illustrations using AutoCAD for shipboard electronics systems or equipment.
Autodesk Certified Professional in Inventor for Mechanical/Electrical Design or in AutoCAD for Design and Drafting certification preferred. - Five (5) years of experience drafting/illustrating in the electronics field, to include:
- computerized drafting applications
- digital imaging techniques
- use of AutoCad/Inventor or similar software
- plan and prepare graphic presentations of complex items
- Experience with DoD processes and procedures.
- Ability to clearly communicate with engineers and other team members regarding design changes, clarifications, and potential issues.
Required Security Clearance:
- US Citizenship required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
- Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
