SAIC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support critical Department of Defense (DoD) communications systems. In this role, you will collaborate with contractors, government personnel, and vendors to analyze, research, develop, and enhance electronic equipment and systems.

Key responsibilities include reviewing and updating design diagrams, reverse engineering components, analyzing obsolete parts, and creating replacement hardware solutions. The Electrical Engineer will also support the build-out and testing of new and updated hardware. This role is ideal for a self-motivated electrical engineer with a strong background in circuit and PCB design, hardware evaluation, and hands-on testing.

Work will be done ON-SITE in San Diego, CA. Must be local to area. Must be able to travel a minimum of 10% to government sites as needed.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Systems Analysis & Design:
    • Research, design, develop, modify, evaluate, and test a variety of electronic systems and equipment, including radar, communication systems, and circuitry components for DoD platforms.
    • Analyze current hardware systems in coordination with contractors, government personnel, and vendors to determine status and improvement opportunities.
    • Provide feedback on maintaining, upgrading, and replacing components for existing communication system hardware.
  • Hardware Engineering & Integration:
    • Investigate the status of obsolete components and systems, identify suitable alternatives, and develop updated design documents.
    • Provide detailed cost and schedule estimates for replacement parts and upgrades to the customer.
    • Build, integrate, and test updated and new hardware to replace obsolete parts in legacy systems.
  • Testing & Evaluation:
    • Conduct experimental and functional tests on equipment and evaluate results to ensure system integrity and compliance with standards.
    • Support the verification and validation of refurbished or redesigned components.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Develop and update design diagrams, engineering specifications, and build procedures.
    • Prepare high-quality reports summarizing findings, progress, and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Execution:
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration and sustainment of solutions across the system lifecycle.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have an Active Secret clearance to start
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance after start
  • Proven knowledge of circuit design, PCB design and layout, and PCB fabrication/assembly processes.

     

  • Experience in reading, analyzing, and reverse engineering design diagrams and technical documents.
  • Hands-on experience in hardware testing, evaluation, and integration.

 

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with NIWC Pacific or other Navy-related programs.
  • Familiarity with DoD and Navy communication systems and standards.
  • Proven track record of managing hardware sustainment programs and resolving technical challenges.
Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
