Description
SAIC is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems for the MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) program at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on LabVIEW-based test infrastructure used to verify mission-critical military hardware and software. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to system architecture decisions, and take ownership of tools and frameworks used across programs.
Work Environment: This is a fully onsite position at Redstone Arsenal. Due to the nature of the work, remote/hybrid is not available.
What you will do:
- Maintain and improve HIL test systems—addressing both existing issues and new requirements—to support evolving test goals.
- Refactor existing LabVIEW codebases to improve usability, maintainability, performance, and scalability.
- Develop new software and hardware components to expand test capabilities for upcoming system features.
- Design reusable frameworks and architectures that can support multiple configurations or be used by less-experienced developers.
- Improve internal tooling and infrastructure to streamline testing workflows and increase engineering productivity.
- Assist other groups with test tool usage and apply domain expertise to broader systems where needed.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers on best practices, design approaches, and debugging techniques.
- Play a key role in guiding long-term direction, helping prioritize work, and aligning team efforts with program goals.
- Deepen your domain expertise. Our systems interact with a broad array of hardware and software. You'll frequently investigate subsystems you interface with, gaining cross-disciplinary knowledge and becoming a go-to resource on complex system interactions.
- Mentorship & Influence: Senior-level authority to shape designs, guide less experienced developers, and drive system evolution.
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree and nine (9) years experience; Additional six (6) years experience can be accepted in lieu of degree.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in LabVIEW, including:
-
- Object-oriented LabVIEW programming
- Design and development of modular, reusable frameworks
- Strong grasp of LabVIEW best practices and coding standards
- Strong troubleshooting skills with combined hardware/software systems
- Familiarity with laboratory tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.)
- Understanding of electrical concepts: continuity, resistance, voltage, current, grounding, capacitance, etc.
Desired Experience/Skills:
- Experience supporting military or aerospace test infrastructure
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Familiarity with hardware communication protocols (e.g., CAN, RS-232, SPI, etc.)
- Experience with source control systems and conducting code reviews
Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
