SAIC is seeking a qualified Senior Scientific Systems Engineer to support FDA operations. This role provides advanced scientific computing support to FDA scientists within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) in Silver Spring, MD. 

Our team supports FDA's scientific mission through comprehensive technical services including workstation administration, scientific software support, and infrastructure integration across macOS, Windows, and Linux environments within specialized laboratory environments. This position requires strong experience deploying, configuring, and supporting scientific computing systems across macOS, Windows and Linux environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configure, deploy, and support Windows, macOS and Linux workstations in an enterprise scientific computing environment.
  • Install, configure and support scientific applications on macOS, Windows and Linux systems.
  • Install, configure and support scientific applications on Windows servers used to support scientific computing environments.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for scientific workstations across macOS, Windows, and Linux platforms.
  • Develop scripts and automation solutions to support software installation, system configuration, and operational efficiency.
  • Configure and manage macOS and Windows workstations with Active Directory integration.
  • Detect, isolate, document, and rapidly resolve system outages and technical problems within scientific environments.
  • Provide direct technical support to a highly skilled user base including scientists, researchers and laboratory personnel.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams responsible for server provisioning, operating system maintenance and patch management.
  • Document system issues, resolutions, and procedures in logging and reporting systems.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Additional responsibilities include workstation deployments, end-user documentation and training, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting scientific computing or advanced technical computing environments. 
  • Strong experience deploying, configuring, and supporting macOS workstations in enterprise environments.
  • Experience supporting systems across macOS and Windows platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems sufficient to configure and support Linux-based workstations.
  • Experience installing and configuring applications on Windows servers.
  • Experience with Active Directory and Windows Server Update Services.
  • Experience developing scripts or automation tools using languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in complex technical environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for technical documentation and reporting.
  • Experience supporting highly technical customers such as scientists, researchers and physicians.
  • Must possess an active FDA Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain prior to start.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience supporting scientific computing or laboratory environments.
  • Experience or knowledge of supporting systems that leverage NVIDIA GPUs for AI, machine learning, or scientific computing workloads.
  • Experience supporting virtualized environments or scientific research applications.
Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
