The Surgical NP provides diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Assist the physician/surgeon in the global management of patient care in all perioperative settings including (but not limited to) General Surgery, Urology, and Wound Care.

The Surgical NP will be part of a team that covers the following responsibilities on a rotating basis:

  • Assist licensed physicians/surgeons as 1st assistant in OR with patient surgery, both open and DaVinci robotic surgical cases. The Surgical PA/NP will handle routine problems related to the surgical patient in the perioperative setting. Will be expected to maintain surgical skills.
  • Post-operative care – Is responsible for assisting the surgeon with providing post-operative care including writing orders, communicating the care plan with family, and discharge planning.
  • Cover inpatient consults and follow-ups for General Surgery, Urology and Wound Care
  • Cover outpatient wound care clinic as primary clinician. Develops and manages an individualized wound care treatment plan for optimal healing outcomes or chronic maintenance
  • Day/Night/Weekend call coverage as first call escalating to attending MD on call as required

Reports to: Chief of General Surgery

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from accredited APRN program
  • Current license or ability to obtain license to practice in the State of Rhode Island
  • Credentialing by the SCH Medical Staff
  • Work well independently in addition to being skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with DaVinci surgical robot
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in one (or all) specialties under scope of position (General Surgery, Urology and Wound Care)
