The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

 

SPA provides critical decision support to enabling and executing a strategy of technological superiority and enabling the delivery and sustainment of secure, resilient, and preeminent capabilities to the warfighter quickly and cost effectively. Our team of experienced military, technical, and operations research analysts is skilled in evaluating military problems, identifying the driving factors, devising innovative approaches, collecting applicable data, developing necessary software tools, and performing thorough and timely assessments to inform technology and acquisition governance decisions to ensure U.S. military forces retain military superiority in the future.

 

We have an immediate need for a Quantum Mechanical Modeler to provide onsite support out of Arlington, VA.


Responsibilities

The candidate will support project development and management advancing biological-metal interactions and quantum mechanical modeling. Current and planned efforts include: process scale-up of biotechnology (from bench to pilot); modularization of biotechnological processes; high-throughput metallo-biology assessment; quantum mechanical and molecular models; Artificial-Intelligence & machine learning for hierarchical environmental model development; inorganic chemistry; solvent extractions; process-flow sheets and business development; and IP/patent law. This candidate will perform Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance (SETA) roles supporting research efforts blending the best of classical and quantum communications cohesively to produce a scalable and more secure networking infrastructure. Responsibilities will include new concept and new program development with government principals. Will explore and characterize the current state-of-the-art and technical feasibility of new concepts and potential research approaches. This will include required support of research programs in terms of technology management, engagement with research performers, deliverable review, and regularly leading calls or meetings with research performers on a technical basis.

 


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in computational biology, quantum mechanical models, physics and/or biophysics, biochemistry, metallo-biology, materials science, geochemistry, synthetic biology, genetics, test and evaluation, and experience in IP/patent law and licensing.

  • Experience in research related to 2nd-order molecular interactions and coordination chemistry.

  • Excellent technical writing and organizational skills..

  • Able to communicate complex scientific ideas to diverse audiences and synthesize research findings and insights across a broad range of biotechnological areas.

  • Able to identify opportunities for scientific innovation and handle a wide variety of tasks, such as briefing support and general administrative actions.

  • Active TS/SCI with SAP eligibility.

  • Able to work fully onsite based on client needs.
