Overview
Correctional Educator Supervisors supervise Correctional Educators who teach incarcerated adult students in small classes using specially designed curriculum adapted for individual education levels in Vermont's Correctional Facilities. Correctional Educator Supervisors supervise and manage educational services at all Vermont Correctional Facilities. This position will supervise education services at Northeast Correctional Complex (NECC). NECC consists of two separate buildings that host educational services. The Correctional Educator Supervisor at NECC directly supervises 4-5 Correctional educators, providing guidance, evaluation, and support to ensure effective instruction and alignment with student needs. The role requires skill in building professional working relationships, exercising sound judgment in a correctional environment, and maintaining high standards of accountability.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversight of curriculum implementation
- Staff supervision and professional development
- Compliance with state and federal education requirements.
The Correctional Educator Supervisor ensures consistent instructional quality, coordinates schedules and coverage, manages educational records and assessments, and communicates regularly with facility leadership. The position also prepares required reports, monitors program outcomes, and collaborates with central office staff to support statewide education initiatives. Working experience in program coordination and compliance monitoring is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of adult basic education, special education and ADA/504 compliance, GED preparation, assessment practices, educational technology, and career readiness programming is required. Familiarity with the Community High School of Vermont, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation process, adult education, and transition planning for students entering and exiting high school programs is highly desirable.

In general, the incumbent will travel extensively to each program site and work from that site. Incumbent must be able to interact, work, and deal with Department staff, educators, state, federal and local officials, correctional facility clients, and the general public. Evening and weekend work may be required. Meetings and activities take place within correctional facilities and probation offices.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree AND at least three (3) years of experience as a Correctional Educator or Corrections Education Administrator.
