Overview
The Department of Financial Regulation (DFR) is seeking to hire a DFR Public Information and Outreach Coordinator. DFR is a state agency that protects consumers while ensuring industry partners (Insurance, Securities, and Financial Institutions) operate in a responsible manner.
DFR is looking for an enthusiastic and capable candidate who will report directly and work collaboratively with the Executive Director to coordinate outreach, education, media requests; record management and requests; respond to requests for public information; and provide advice and duties as assigned to public and internal policy.
There is some flexibility to work from home for the right candidate. The Department is currently supporting a hybrid telework environment, Monday through Friday. Requests to telework will be considered, with at least three days of in-person work at our Montpelier office required.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public, governmental and media relations.
- Knowledge of publication layout, printing, and desktop publishing.
- Awareness of commercial financial services industry practices.
- Awareness of consumer, legal, and regulatory issues relating to banking, insurance, securities, and health care.
- Ability to conceptualize policy needs and achieve effective project collaboration among diverse professional groups.
- Ability to implement effective public education policies and programs.
- Ability to quickly grasp and explain new technical subjects.
- Ability to learn web site design conventions and editing.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of desktop publishing, design, and photography software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with website strategies, development, design, and digital accessibility in a content management environment such as Drupal.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
- Knowledge of major social media platforms.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting, with some travel occasionally required. Must be able to diplomatically respond to outside inquiries and to differences of opinion.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in policy, public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or related field AND two (2) or more years of experience in communications, public, government or media relations, policy writing or development, consumer education, or related field.
OR
Four (4) or more years of experience in policy, communications, public, government or media relations, policy writing or development, consumer education, or related field.
