Overview
The Motor Vehicle Direct Client Service Specialist will assist the public by phone, mail, and electronic communication with DMV services. Responsibilities include reviewing, verifying, and processing applications for motor vehicle registrations, driver's licenses, and reinstatements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
The role also includes providing clear and accurate information to the public, maintaining accountability for fees and audits, completing weekly reports, managing office supply inventory, and researching transactions conducted at all DMV offices. Regular interaction with the public and handling a variety of applications are key parts of this position.
We are looking for a schedule as close to 7.45 am - 4.30 pm Monday to Friday as possible.
This position ends at 12/31/2026 at the latest.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. Environmental FactorsIncumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Due to significant public contact exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to multi-task and prioritize unpredictable workloads. Employees must be able to deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Within the office setting, normal workplace conditions prevail. Occasional trips outdoors when verifying vehicle identification numbers. Incumbents must be able to perform several job duties within several different units possibly in the same day. The incumbent must be able to travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Overtime work may be required.
Minimum QualificationsTwo (2) or more years of work experience in a customer or client service role such as retail, hospitality or government that included significant public contact and regular use of computer programs.
OR
Four (4) or more months of work experience in the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in licensing or registration meeting proficiency standards set by the Department.
Special Note:
The incumbent will serve customers promptly and efficiently while maintaining the minimum production level of 3+ transactions per hour with a 1% or less error rate. The incumbent will be proficient in license or registration. The incumbent will be proficient in 2 or more of the job duties referenced on the matrix for a minimum of 4 months showing proficiency. These requirements will be scrutinized by the respective department and supervising managers.
