Overview

Vermont State Parks seeks an energetic, outgoing, positive individual to join our parks team to lead the facilities management and infrastructure program for 12 parks in the southwestern region of the state, spanning from Woodford to Charlotte. The ideal candidate is passionate about Parks and Outdoor Recreation, and understands the critical role that facilities and maintenance have in ensuring the best possible visitor experience. A thorough understanding of facility management, contracting, and personnel management is preferred. This position requires an excellent manager with strong communication and collaboration skills who thrives in a fast-paced service-oriented environment. This is an advanced facilities and maintenance position responsible for all major facility improvements and upgrades; maintenance and repair work; preventative maintenance scheduling; and supervision, training and evaluation of the five regional maintenance staff.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in office and field settings, both outdoors and inside buildings. Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, work in cramped, damp, and poorly ventilated areas and in inclement weather. Manual dexterity is needed to operate equipment and use tools. Incumbents must be able to respond at any time when emergency repairs necessitate overtime. A valid driver's license is required for travel to work sites.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher AND three (3) years or more of work experience of any combination in park maintenance, building or other structure construction and maintenance, trail construction and maintenance, or project coordination or supervision, INCLUDING three (3) years or more of supervisory experience.

OR

Two years of full-time college coursework or an associate's degree AND five (5) years or more of work experience of any combination in park maintenance, building or other structure construction and maintenance, trail construction and maintenance, or project coordination or supervision, INCLUDING three (3) years or more of supervisory experience.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND seven (7) years or more of experience of any combination in park maintenance, building or other structure construction and maintenance, trail construction and maintenance, or project coordination or supervision, INCLUDING three (3) years or more of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for experience in coaching, supervising, training and evaluating personnel in a decentralized organization.
Preference for experience with and understanding of state and local building codes.
Preference for experience prioritizing projects and managing contracts.
Preference for experience in state, national or community park facilities and maintenance.
