Proposal Summary:  
MSI is seeking a Countering Violent Extremism, Economic Livelihoods (+ Natural Resource Management) Specialist for the USAID-funded Northern Economic Livelihoods for Youth (NELY) Activity in Benin. The goal of this multi-year program is to improve economic livelihoods for young men and women in northern Benin vulnerable to recruitment by violent extremist organizations.

 

Position Summary: 
MSI is seeking a Countering Violent Extremism, Economic Livelihoods (+ Natural Resource Management) Specialist to lead programming to increase and promote sustainable livelihoods and foster economic security. This specialist will also serve as a core team member overseeing the activity's strategic vision of countering violent extremism through supporting the youth and promoting entrepreneurship. This includes coordinating the stabilization activities within the broader framework and with the Benin NELY teams. This will be a full-time position based in Cotonou or Parakou, Benin. This position is contingent upon award.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic vision, management and technical direction of program activities related to livelihoods and/or entrepreneurship, countering violent extremism, and natural resource management.
  • Support economic growth and assistance programs by providing assistance and advice on natural resources and environmental issues.
  • Build relationships with the private sector, relevant government ministries, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of aspects of the work plan related to livelihoods, countering violent extremism, and natural resource management.
  • Support economic development assessments and use data to inform programming.
  • Collaborate with operations, monitoring & evaluation, grants, and other program teams to implement, monitor, and closeout activities.
  • Coordinate with USAID/Benin, as required by Chief of Party.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A graduate degree in a relevant technical field such as CVE, economics, international development, etc.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience working in complex development projects, including on CVE.
  • Technical expertise in designing and implementing community level CVE, livelihood and deliverable economic inclusion related responses, public-private partnerships, natural resource protection and socio-economic recovery, financial inclusion, and employment support.
  • French and English required, and a local language preferred.
  • Preference for local or regional hire.
