Your Role:

Tetra Tech, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Scientist or Engineer for our Bloomington, MN location with 3 to 5 years of experience to provide support on a variety of environmental projects, including Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, environmental monitoring during construction projects, remedial project support, and on-call response support.

Responsibilities will include writing and reviewing Phase I ESA reports, as well as the collection of soil, water, soil vapor, and material samples; collection of air monitoring and sampling data; field audits and inspections; contractor oversight; equipment maintenance/readiness; organizing and reviewing data; and preparing reports. Interaction with the MPCA and liability assurance programs expected.

This position will also involve providing on-call readiness and response to support projects/clients in the Midwest.  This position may be responsible for documenting and oversight of emergency response activities, equipment maintenance, and site health and safety.  

 

Qualifications:

Candidates must have 3 to 5 years of environmental consulting or related experience. The ideal candidate must also have/be:

  • Knowledge of federal/state regulations and due diligence is required.
  • Experience with sampling equipment required.
  • Experience with site characterization and investigations, field sampling, and sampling/monitoring equipment is desirable.  
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully support complex and time sensitive projects.
  • Highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment. 
  • Able to travel and be on-call as needed (approximately 20%).  
  • Excellent client interaction and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proficiency with CAD and GIS/GPS preferred.

In addition:

  • This position requires you to drive on a regular basis.  Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

Education:

  • B.A or B.S. in environmental science, chemistry, geology, or related degree required.
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and current annual 8-hour refresher required.
  • ICS and related training and demonstrated first responder (environmental emergency response) experience preferred.
  • Asbestos certification preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:

Candidates must be able to walk around project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 25 pounds of equipment such as maps, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras during field work.  Candidates must also be able to wear a respirator.  

Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions and can occur in remote locations and include areas of uneven terrain.  Some field work requiring overnight travel may be required.  

Work Environment:

The work environment will consist of a mix of office and field work.  Travel requirements may range from day-long projects that do not require overnight stays to multi-day field projects that require overnight stays.  Work locations may include urban and rural areas and can occur in any season and in all types of weather conditions.
