The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Energy Efficiency Professional/Energy Engineer to work on site as a Resource Efficiency Manager (REM) and support energy conservation improvements for Marine Corps Installation Pacific, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler (MCIPAC-MCBB) in Okinawa, Japan.

Your Role

The selected candidate will work on site at the MCIPAC-MCBB facilities in Okinawa, with annual travel to Camp Fuji. As part of the REM team, you will provide comprehensive energy management and resilience services to support facilities at all locations. 

 

You will identify energy conservation and resilience opportunities and help facilitate the implementation of projects, initiatives, and programs that reduce energy and water consumption and demand, save money, and help the environment. You will work with the facilities management teams at MCBB and an integrated Tetra Tech REM team to augment MCBB's energy management capabilities. You will serve as an on-site action agent to facilitate energy and cost savings and attain federal goals.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Primary duties will focus on energy management, including program management services, but work will also include:

  • Developing energy efficiency and building controls improvements for facilities
  • Walking facilities daily to conduct energy audits, identify energy conservation opportunities, and develop projects
  • Developing distributed generation opportunities
  • Identifying area to improve energy and water resilience
  • Developing renewable energy projects
  • Providing energy training for engineering and maintenance staff
  • Performing design reviews
  • Analyzing energy and utilities data
  • Recommending improvements to energy and utility procurement operations and maintenance
  • Writing technically sound audit and other reports
  • Supporting construction of energy projects
  • Other related duties

Qualifications

The REM is required to have 3 plus years of experience in energy management or energy engineering. Strong HVAC background and experience with energy auditing, project development, life-cycle cost analysis, direct digital controls, commissioning, and building/system optimization is desired. Previous experience working at Federal / Department of Defense facilities is a plus.

 

The position requires:

  • Knowledge of utility information systems, energy management technologies, and metering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to produce results
  • Ability to produce technically correct finished work, including technical reports, white papers, metrics, and briefs
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets, especially MS Excel, and other database applications
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Degree / Certifications

  • A BS in engineering or energy-related field is required, but military or civilian experience working at Federal installations, or experience in energy-related field may be acceptable.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) designation is required or must be able to obtain within 1 year. 

Work Environment

This position will consist of an office environment, as well as frequent field visits in and around various client facility sites. It will require travel to Camp Fuji annually.  You must be able to:

  • Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. 
  • Walking or stand to a significant degree, such as walking 2 to 5 miles in a few hours. 
  • Be able to climb ladders, access roofs, and access narrow mechanical rooms.
