Position Summary:
  The mission of the UCI School of Physical Sciences is to uncover fundamental truths and to provide transformative discoveries that improve the world. The Mathematics Department is comprised of 43 senate faculty, 24 non senate faculty, approximately 700 undergraduate students, and 100 Ph.D. students. A highly productive and influential department on campus, the Mathematics Department hosts a workplace environment that strives for strong service, excellence, while inspiring creativity, teamwork, knowledge, professional development, and support for all its constituents. The department provides an educational, supportive, challenging, engaging, and rewarding atmosphere where collaboration and innovation both thrive. This position will begin full time on-site. After assessing work productivity throughout the six-month probationary period along with satisfactory progress and supervisor approval, the incumbent may request a hybrid/remote schedule that fits within the department's business needs.
  The Graduate Affairs Officer in the Department of Mathematics at UC Irvine has independent responsibility for the full range of administration of the graduate student affairs unit. Acts as the primary point of contact for faculty, staff, students, Dean's office, and central administrative units regarding graduate program student matters. Provides counseling to current students on issues related to their academic progress, employment, and personal adjustments. Directly and independently responsible for all aspects of the degree requirement process. Implements or oversees all aspects of the graduate student recruitment process and advises prospective students on admissions-related issues such as admissions policies, financial aid and fellowship opportunities, and campus housing options. Maintains financial tracking, budgeting, and forecasting for Departmental graduate student employment and graduate block funding. Oversees graduate employment functions within the Department and interacts with faculty, staff, and graduate students to ensure integrity of the department's graduate program. Serves as backup to the Undergraduate Student Affairs Officer.

  The expected pay range for this recruitment is $56,200.00 - $76,500.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $56,200.00 - $96,800.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:   1-3 years in Student Affairs within the University of California; 3-5 years in Student Affairs within higher education. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.  Solid verbal and written communication skills.  Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.  Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.  Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.  Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work and function in a team-oriented environment and effectively promotes teamwork and group cohesiveness.  Promote and maintain professional competence in the work area by actively moving towards understanding differences in coworkers' styles and level of capabilities and by actively diffusing negative behaviors and performance in the workplace.  Interpersonal and strong customer service skills to work effectively with department senior management, faculty, staff, and students with the ability to clearly communicate and explain complicated procedures and policies.
  Preferred:  
  • Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. 
  • Knowledge of complex U.S. visa and immigration procedures, compliance issues, and employment eligibility / authorization for international students and scholars. Proficient in the use of university-specific computer application programs, such as UC Path, GWA, KFS, WebSoC/eSoC, CIM.
