The Department of Recreation & Wellbeing provides competitive and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, staff and campus affiliated community members. In addition to the 30 sports clubs, the department offers a wide range of recreational activities and state of the art equipment.

Responsibilities
The Youth Programs Operations Staff at the Golden Bear Rec Center (GBRC) are responsible for overseeing customer service issues, participant registrations, safety protocols, policy enforcement, and other operational processes within youth programs. This role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, organized, and customer-focused environment for youth participants.

  • Keeps binders updated for all classes.
  • Responds to and file email from various campus emails. Flag ones that need special attention.
  • Assists with check-in before class and advises and assists individuals and groups with problems related to scheduled recreational activities.
  • Helps with updating progress reports and communicating progress to guardians of youth enrolled in recreational activites.
  • Oversees inventory, storage, budget and maintenance of proshop.
  • Implements program policies and procedures.
  • Assists with appropriate public relations and promotional programs.
  • Reports safety issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains files and keeps clean and precise records.

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills to resolve issues.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties.
  • Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
  • Specialized knowledge of program activity and industry best practices.
  • Service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, development of original ideas, and creative problem solving skills.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally.

    Education Level
  • High school diploma and / or equivalent certification / experience / training

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Red Cross CPR preferred. 
  • Standard First Aid Training Certification preferred.

 

Salary & Benefits

This is a 12-month, part-time (8 hours/week) contract appointment, not eligible for UC benefits. 

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. 

The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $18.07. This will increase to $18.67 on July 1, 2024.
