Clinical care is primarily done within the UVAHealth system and in Charlottesville, VA. The department is growing and evolving into a more comprehensive unit. Recently, the Dentistry services were consolidated into the department and this has created opportunities for collaboration and program expansion. Currently, the Department has one experienced part-time Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and anticipates the need for adding a new full-time faculty member in this role in the near future. This is both a strategic hire and a needs based hire and performance goals will be focused around expansion of the program and increased access with enhanced throughput and availability.
Clinical Care: The new hire will be asked to work with the current Oral Surgeon to transition into that existing practice while also identifying areas for growth. The clinical care will primarily take place at UVAHealth University Hospital and Outpatient Center in Charlottesville but opportunities to expand into the region are encouraged. There is both an independent maxillofacial clinic as well as a dental clinic on grounds at UVAHealth Hospital which will be available for use. Partnering with UVAHealth, Pediatric Dentistry and the strategic initiatives around pediatric care will also be essential. Demonstrated success in working with multi-disciplinary teams and building programs will be important.
Administrative: The primary administrative focus for this position is related to programmatic growth. This will include the need to identify clinical needs and advocate for resources from the department and health system.
Research / Education / Innovation: As a faculty member within an academic medical center, it is expected that the successful applicant will participate in research and education. There is a plastic surgery residency program and a dentistry residency program at UVA and engagement with these trainees will be a priority. Opportunities to partner with Otolaryngology and other complimentary departments will also be welcomed. Additional areas for career distinction would include clinical innovation and developing programs that distinguish UVA from other centers. Participation in educational and administrative activities within the department and health system will be a foundational component of the position.
